Smile Pre-27 find of the day

So I'm sitting home injured these days, trying to learn to make do with an injured wing for a couple of weeks. I had a call about a pre-27 3.5 inch gun and said I'm VERYYYYYYYY interested if it is available.

Today I got the call and figured I'm going to make myself broke but happy and my buddy says," He has a 6.5 inch bbl gun as well if you want to look at that too?" So I ended up with two beauties for my budding harem.

The 3.5 inch gun has s/n matching stocks and typical wear at the muzzle and cylinder edges, some wear on the stocks and a cylinder drag mark. The 6.5 inch gun has what look like crisp correct stocks with no markings, a little muzzle wear, scratch on the underside of the frame and a little holster wear.

So how did I do?

I made it out the door for $1200 for the pair. Not free but pretty much a good place to be.

You did good. I have a matching pair with their boxes. I won't say what I paid. Don't want to make anybody sick. 'Course,I've had 'em for a while.

To find two pre 27's at the same time, same place sounds like you did pretty well. Of course price is also a factor, but the guns look really nice. They are my favorite model.. I am fortunate enough to have all the pre 27 barrel lengths. As to price, I was in a little shop in Ga. this past Sat. while the wife and I were on our way to Atlanta to see Phantom of the Opera at the Fox Theater, and saw a model 27-2, 3.5" barrel, Blue with rubber grips and it was rough and the best part is that it was only $899.00. WOW, what a bargain. Passed on that one. So if you are south of that price on either you did good for my market. Enjoy, they are great shooters.

This is by far my favorite Smith revolver. I learned to shoot with my dad's pre-27 and have it now. I have always thought they are the most porportional and best looking of the N-frames. 357 Magnum is a great caliber, very easy to control even when loaded to original velocities and not downloaded 20% like modern loads.

I wish they were cheaper but since I've been qwesting for the short bbl gun for two years, I'm pleased with the deal. Especially since they are in very nice original condition with the correct stocks. I have a dislike for decomposing Hogue grips and that is what they always have in my part of the world.

Great guns. Nice price. If your wallet hurts awhile, who cares, it will recover and you got what you wanted.

Concurrence from me. I have a 6-in Pre-27 that I like a lot, but I wish the barrel was either a half inch longer or an inch or more shorter. I think you got two of the best barrel lengths there are for .357 use. The guns seem to be in great shape, and the two-fer price is fine.

Good on you!

Nice guns, I think you did real good! I just recently added a 6.5" to complete my "family" of pre-27 models. I plan to post some pictures as soon as I get around to it. You know you now need the other barrel lengths, there is a 5",6" and 8.375" out there with your name on them somewhere.

I'm looking for additional bbl lengths. The 6.5 inch gun is a clone of my Dad's gun, he bought his in 1954 from S&W. For some reason I had never found another one until a few days ago.
