Right now the sky is clear and blue, it's 72deg with a breeze, the end of a terrific day.

I spent an incredibly beautiful morning on the shore on patrol - checking clammers for licenses, short clams, etc, down at the harbor keeping an eye on things. Made a gun deal with the lobster buyer, sold him a couple that I've had in the safe for a while, made a tidy profit that included half a dozen lobsters as a bonus. Went home, spent a couple of hours shooting my new .22 in the back field with a good friend, mowed the lawn and played with the dogs. The wife came home from work with a two very nice chuck eye steaks (poor man's ribeye's, the best kept secret in beef) and a baguette. Grilled the steaks, steamed the lobsters, opened a decent bottle of wine and had a wonderful meal with BB King, Joss Stone, and Popa Chubby in the background. Now I'm having a drink while she picks out the four lobsters we didn't eat for lobster rolls tomorrow night then we're heading for the hot tub.

Every now and then the stars align and it is good to be me.
Today is one of those times.

Those steaks are no secret from my wife. She get's them, too. You verified my stereotype that everyone in Maine eats lobster three times a day. Well, that's how the stereotype goes anyway.
Have you ever watched Anthony Bordain's Without Reservations on the travel channel? He spent one show in Maine. Half on the coast and half inland where he was in the woods shooting snowmen off his cameraman's uncle's backporch with an assortment of guns. Hit himself in the head with a scope, too. He talked about a rivalry between these two areas of folks. He ate someplace on the coast where this rustic old restaurant that looked like the bowels of a ship and this pirate lookin' guy cooked the greatest seafood including scallops the size of softballs, or so it seemed.

So where's the invitation? I'll bring the beer!

I spent a few days in Maine last summer, and we liked it so much, we were actually tossing around the idea of a move up there. I stopped into the Kittery Trading Post and was very impressed with their selection and inventory. We are planning another trip up next Spring to take another look. We even saw the Bush compound in Kennybunkport, NICE!!! So far what I have seen in Maine I have REALLY liked!! Enjoy!

Visited Maine on my honeymoon in 1984. Marriage didn't last but my fond memories of that beautiful state remain. It would be my first choice for relocation. I guess second choice would be Oregon/Idaho.

I've lived in Maine my whole life and my family are all lobstermen. I grew up on the water and dinner was something that was caught during the days haul. Not lobster though, that was the paycheck. I bought 75 acres in the mountains of southeast Arizona about 4 years ago and I can't get out of here fast enough! Between the high taxes, the low wages, the long winters, the high cost of living, and a state government that can't spend enough money you guys can have it! But it is pretty out here so if anyone wants to buy a house on 4.5 acres in the woods of the midcoast let me know! Send me a pm lol. The Kittery Trading Post is a great place, believe me they have come between me and a lot of my paychecks over the years.

Tell your wife to keep the steak thing to herself, more for us. My wife would gladly eat lobster three times a day, we have it every week or two. It's easy during times like this because the economy is keeping prices down (well, easy for me, not madmikeb and his family).

WC145: lucky you! My wife and I were there last year at Bar Harbor...ate lobster every day...want to move there someday but will have to sell the Ohio farm first...you also have the absolute best haddock I have ever tasted...What city are you near? There was a 1 acre lot on the ocean for a cool $1.5 million (No house!) I'm sure property would be cheaper away from Bar Harbor...any suggestions? Thanks

I'm not around any cities. The biggest town in my area is Machias, it's the county seat and has a population of 2500 or so. It's about an hour further up the coast past Bar Harbor, nothing touristy out here, just fishing towns, so homes and land are much more reasonable than Bar Harbor and places like that. For example, your millions go a lot further, there's a nice place for sale in the town I work for - two houses, two garages, a small pond, on 65 acres on a point on a tidal river - they're asking $1.7 million. Of course if all you've got is thousands, like most of us, there's plenty of places on or near the water that are very nice and prices are pretty reasonable these days.
