I'm putting my response together. Since I'm reviewing the actual, full proposal (not just the short version in the report), this will take me awhile (I've already spent three hours in review/research of the proposal and the ORS's and Portland City Code, with currently two and a half pages of response written). Not all of the proposals appear to violate any provisions in the ORS's or the city's authority, but one part of them probably does - though OFF implies they all do.

I'm trying to avoid what I see as OFF's somewhat "snarky" wording and their unnecessary commentary of the mayor (true as it may be) - though I generally am supportive of OFF's issues.

In Pursuit,

I hate to hear this but I have to say the man was elected and therefore the people got what they wanted. There are many like him and people keep electing them and then complain about the person right up to the time they re-elect him.

I see the same thing elsewhere. Apathetic voters that do not get involved in the process and then get upset whenever the person elected is not carrying out the wishes of the apathetic. The elected person generally gets a very staunch and active support-group behind them and they carry it to the polls. It is not a new phenomenon.

I will repeat, the people elected him and will again. They also elected the person that held the job before him.

Granted, the man is likely an idiot but the people knew it before the election. He will be re-elected if he runs again.

Obama is an idiot with nothing going for him but the people elected him.

No argument from me. Just like the idiots in D.C. elected Marion Berry; the idiots in NYC elected Daly; the idiots in NYC elected Bloomberg; and, not all that long ago, somebody had to put New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin and LA Governer Kathleen Blanco in office.

My statement was not political...just that (A) Portland is a cool city in a beautiful area and (B) the mayor is an idiot.

Mayor Adams is a charter member of the Mayors Against Gun Violence, which was founded by Michael R. Bloomberg of NYC. He ran quite openly not only as a gay, but as a "progressive." Not only he, but every member of the Portland City Council is a "progressive" [read; socialist] and are very much anti-gun, anti-freedom. The city most assuredly gets the government they vote for.

Portland prides itself on being "weird", and they overwhelmingly vote Democrat every election. I don't live in Portland, but I do work there (you'd be amazed if I told you where) and I legally carry a gun with me everywhere I go.

Oregon has been bad for the last 15 years.
Been getting worse. As a result I moved to Washington.
The rest of my famliy and extended family is doing the same.
Regardless of our votes otherwise, this **** continues.
So saying that "we" are not voting is argumentative.
The fact is... we vote but WE are outnumbered...
They can have Oregon and California.
Both are headed to ruin quicker than we can track.
These are sad times getting worse and worse... *sigh*
