Md-20-2 Austin P.D. gun added to the fold
I had the good fortune to add this little beauty to my collection a week or two ago. It has been resinished at the factoryy like most all Austin P.D. guns. There is no marking on the back strap. It does letter as shipping Dec. 1964 to the Austin P.D. I think 50 were shipped and have been told that 9 are in collectors hands. Not sure of the info I got. Any information will be appreciated.

Refinished or not - that's a good looking gun! Congratulations and thanks for posting it. You are planning to shoot it, ... yes?

Congratulations on your acquisition. I too have one of the 50 sold to Austin PD. They were all sent back to S&W to be re-nickeled before the Dept. got rid of them. I have not shot mine, and don't know if I ever will, as I have a Heavy Duty and an Outdoorsman that go the range on occasion.

I envy your good fortune. Congratulations!
I'm usually not on the lookout for service firearms that are associated with a particular agency, but I make an exception for the Austin guns because I was born there many moons ago. In this case I guess I want a "geography gun" as much as some want a birthday gun,

Hi:
I am impressived that a Agency (APD) would send weapons back to the Factory to be re-finished prior to getting rid of them.

Not all of them were refinished as I inspected one that wasn't last month at Tucson.

I have one of the 3.5" model 27 Austin PD trades and it is one of my most favorite revolvers. Your Model 20, 38/44 is aufully nice.

DPS stamped Model 28 c. 1971
Does anyone have any info on DPS stamped Model 28's? I am 99% certain it is a Texas State Trooper issue sidearm (Department of Public Safety). I am awaiting Mr. Jinks confirmation, however, in the meantime I'd love to know more about them.
From what years did DPS issued them, approx how many were there, how long were they kept in service, etc. Anything would be more than what I know now.
Thanks.
