Torture test M&P 15-22!!
OK first i want to say that i chose this gun over the Colt 22 and the Sig 522 due to S&Ws long track record.
Aug 25th 2010
3 boxes of Federal 550
50 gallon bucket of water
100 Silhouette targets
Alright arrived at the range at 0800 started by oiling the gun and setting up targets, first test was to run through 8 clips of 25 rounds in rapid fire and succession, ran through all 8 clips no Feed problems or fire problems at all, the target was Swiss cheese , next test was an accuracy test 2 inch metal gongs at 400 yards irion sights co witnessed with a EoTech Clone, 8 clips no problem, other than my lack of aim(lol). for the next several hours i ran through the clips repeatedly till lunch at lunch we broke and set the gun still hot into a 50 gallon bucket of water along with loaded clips.
after lunch we pulled the gun out rack a chamber and proceeded to put the rest of the ammo down range for the next 3 hours, with out any Feed or fire problems.
Conclusions, one of the best Tactical 22 rifles i have ever seen, even better than other models of its bigger brother the 5.56, i will be doing this test again next month with video documentation to see if the results can be replicated, next time we will include a mud bath as one of the tests.

That video should get a MASSIVE amount of youtube views! Great test... and results! I figured the water would have warped the barrel ( even if only slightly) for sure. This is one of those times im GLAD to be wrong!

I would have been more worried about the loaded mags, .22LR isn't submersion rated.

Ahh, I missed that part. For some reason I pictured just sticking it in 5 gallon bucket. So I assumed just the barrel and possibly some of the mag well got wet. But after re-reading it seems he used a 50 gallon barrel, not a 5 gallon bucket. Good catch!
EDIT: I ALSO missed that he was hitting 2 inch plates at 400 yards! ....Seriously? Hitting 400 yards, with a 22? Wow.. just wow. You sir need to enlist, and enroll in sniper school ASAP!

out of 25 rounds at 400 we were only hitting it mabee twice, so its not that great a feat 1 spotter 1 shooter, and yea i was a little worried about the ammo to but to our surprise we had no problems, im actually eager to get out again next month and record the tests, im just hoping i dont have any failures on the next go around

Why would you try to do this test at 400 yards?
why not 50 or 100 or 200?
If the barrel was warped. At 400 yards it would be hard to judge how accurate the gun is going to be.
Maybe do a nice group at 25/50 yards or 100 yards than do the test and recheck it..
Just a thought

WOW. You're being humble. There's no way my old eyes could find anything smaller than a Volkswagon at 400 yards. Can't wait to see the video. Good work!

I know what its like shooting 4 inch blaze orange clay birds with an iron sighted, centerfire rifle at 150 yards. I couldn't find a 2 inch diameter plate at 400 yards without some definite magnification or other large points of reference immediately adjacent to the 2 inch plate. You sure you didn't mean a 2 foot plate at 400 yards??
As for the 50 gallon bucket of water, that's definitely 15-22 abuse. I just couldn't bring myself to do that to mine even if I could afford to take the chance on it being destroyed.
I am definitely looking forward to that video - ought to be impressive.

So Lets see if i understand this correctly.
You are hitting a 2" gong at 400 yards through your iron sights and a EoTech clone? out of 25 rounds you hit it twice.?
Thats 1200 feet. thats 140 feet short of a 1/4 mile
I just walked 100 yards with a coke can i painted orange and You can HARDLY see it. So at 400 yards i almost have to call BS. what x(#) was the Eotech clone helping you with?
What would the drop rate at 400 yards be? I think the 550 .22 pack says a 4.7" Drop at 100 yards ??

I hit the wall at the water . Just the thought of intentionally subjecting a 15-22 to mud is more than I can bear .
Of course, it will be interesting to see if HIS rifle can survive that abuse .

Federal 525 36 gr. need 191.0" of hold off @ 350 yd. with a 50 yd zero. 400 is pretty insane if not shooting down hill. Would like to see this vid.

i may actually be off on how far it was, the guys at the range said close to 400 yards, next test will measure the exact distance, im not trying to falsify any results, oh and the clone is a 512
