Default 629 Classic Magnum front sight comes off

The front sight on my 629 Classic Magnum drags on the front of my Sparks holster and occasionally comes off during presentation.

Can anyone advise how to make it more secure. I'm thinking drill and tap, but looking for the ideal way.

Thank you,

My 629 classic's front sight is spring loaded, maybe your holster is a wee bit too tight at the barrel end and is pushing your sight out of it's dovetail? I'd definetly get some pics up BEFORE you do any mods!

If it is of the patridge style (some call it a post) front sight, try to get you a Baughman quick draw style that won't hook on anything on the way out of a holster.

If that interchangeable front sight system is working correctly, you shouldn't need to do such a radical fix as drilling and tapping. I think it has a spring inside to keep the blade in a fixed position. Is the spring present and accounted for and not broken, sprung, hung up, or bent somehow?

Front sight is ramped and retention spring and plunger are present. The holster puts tension on the top of the sight and I have lost it twice. Remedy seems to be to eliminate quick change feature, but don't want to alter the gun until I'm sure of the best way.

I have to agree, my 629 classic's front site is a major PITA to remove and especially replace. Get a different holster or you may try and find a heavier duty spring?

'Nother vote for a different holster. My DX has never lost the front sight coming out of my Bianchi Accumold or X-15, if that's helpful.

While I have never holstered my 5inch 629 Classic, when I purchased it new, I changed to the partridge style sight which I preferred. After installation, it was somewhat loose. I took it out and re-installed it several times, with the same problem. I untimately 'shimmed' it, by placing a small piece of metal in the hole prior to re-installing the sign. Problem solved. It appeared that the spring was either to short, or hung up somewhere inside the sight frame. Regardless, the shim solved the problem and the sight is very tight now. Might be the problem you are encountering. Good luck.

Aloha, it may not be the "holsters". I have had the same sproblem with my 629 Classic's front sight's falling off. My remedy, order from Brownells a Front Sight Plunger Spring, punch the front sight pin out with a 1/16th punch, remove the current Plunger Spring and Plunger, cut the new (or the older spring) spring down...little by little...I started with a quarter off, then ended up with a little over a half of the sprng left...then placed both springs back into the Plunger hole (cut spring first), then replaced the rolled pin with a punch and reset the front ramp sight. It's on tight, and has been through many rounds of hand-loaded heavy rounds with no issues. I hope this helps anyone who is still looking for another idea to remedy their front sights.

I vote for stretching the original spring or take it out and go rummage through the hardware store springs and find a stiffer or longer spring and cut it back to suit your needs. You could also try stretching the holster a wee bit at the bottom of the sight channel.

You have to pull back on the sight to get it out. The draw would put the opposite pressure on it, keeping it in place. It sounds like the holster pushes the sight back when it is inserted, and somehow up and out of the slot.
