Correct ammo?
Hi, All
I posted this question in another thread, but didn't find all the answers.
I need to know for display purposes, in a oak presintation case that I am building from pictures of an original S&W case, what kind of .32 ammo. for my .32 that I should be hunting for that would be correct for that time period. It is a first mod. lemmon squezzer, built as far as i can determin in 1890. How would you determin what ammo was made in the eria of 1890, was it black powder etc.? Thanks.

It would have been black powder that early. I thought I had a box of .32 S&W U.M.C. cartridges to show but can't find it. That one would have had a black lozenge with the UMC inside of it, kind of a mottled tan and black box. Or it could have been a Peters similar to this one.

Chubbo, Look for a "Picture Box" They are of the period of your gun and show a S&W revolver, often in the break open position, on the top lable of the box. They were made by various makers, Winchester, UMC, U.S.Cartridge Co., etc. They are often seen in auctions and any large antique cartridge dealer can usually. supply them. Value is based on condition, prices usually run from $50 to $200. They are black powder cartridges. Ed.

Thanks all, for the info. Now I will know what to look for. I guess it will have to be at a OGCA gun show later this month.

You can find these boxes readily on eBay for $30-50, sometimes cheaper if you're patient

Just to add it should be .32 S & W (as the box photo noted), and not the later .32 S & W Long.

Here are some boxes I picked up on eBay. I don't think I paid more than $30-35 for any of them.

I went to the OGCA show yesterday, and was able to find a box of Peters Cartridge Co..32 S&W ammo, just like the box that smith17 showed. The trouble is I bought two more Lemon Squezzers, a .32, and a.38. it was late in the show, and I didn't get any .38S&W ammo.
and will have to find some of that also.

Magtech sells .38 S&W in 145 gr. lead round nose. It is mild enough for older top-break S&Ws.
