The 5 MOA dot is a little big at 100 yards. Will work fine if yo are not trying to hit the same hole.
I have this one on a .22 and it works OK.

I have a BSA RBG sight that I picked up from Bass Pro for $29.94 It looks like the one in the first link that blvdbuzzard posted. I really like it and it looks pretty sweet too.

Nice scope BUT you will not be happy with the large 5 moa dot. The smaller size dots come on more expensive scopes. Look for scopes with dots smaller than 4 moa. I think reflex scopes for $100 or less are a bargain.

If you're wanting an optic for both eyes open and shooting at cans and stuff that move around (fast target acquisition) then a 1x red dot is ideal. 1-5MOA is fine. If you want to precision shoot at paper then you'd be better off using a magnified scope.
If you have a large 5MOA dot and frustrated with it covering too much of your target, simply sight it in using a 6'ocklock sight pic (use the top edge of your dot for point of aim). Works quite well.

I may be misunderstanding your question. If so, I appologise, but like I told you yesterday in the Pm's we sent back and forth. Im pretty sure but I could be wrong.. but im 85% sure that this needs an adapter such as this to fit on a weaver/picatinny rail. Again im no expert on such things, nor claim to be one. So IF I am giving you the wrong info, then Im sorry. But why not just buy one that fits a picatinny or weaver rail to begin with, and save the cash instead of buying a adapter?
The second link shows the size differences of the 2 styles of mounts.. this is a ebay auction but it shows the size differences of the rails well.
Dovetail to Weaver Ring Mount Adapter and multi Dovetail raiser.

If you are going to buy a BSA, you need to get one that specifically says it has an integrated Weaver style mount. Some say 3/8 and Weaver mount that's ok too. RD30 at Walmart. Do not get one just for .22 dovetail, and there is no sense fooling around with adapters. But you will need to buy a 3/4in riser.
By the time you get done, you'll have spent $50 and wished you had spent a few more for one of Primary Arms red dots that look like they belong on an AR instead of something you picked up at Walmart. I know this because I have two RD30.

So it looks like changing to this UTG was a better option

How long of a riser should i look for. It's difficult searching for accessories when you don't have the main product

Truglo
Truglo has one with a circle and a 3 MOA dot for just a little more money, and it has red and green redicles. I'm considering one. They run about $55-$65 online.

They also make a "turkey" red dot, which i cannot tell is any different from the tactical.

I got one of these free when I bought my 15-22. I zeroed it in at 25 yards (the maximum distance at the indoor range I often go to) and it seems to work just fine. When the weather gets a little cooler, I will try it at an outdoor range at longer distances.

ill_noiz, Sorry about the late reply, have been offline for a while.
The red dot fit the Weaver rails. The BSA will fit the .22 rail also. You just flip the clamp over to change the size. I had it on my Marlin .22 rifle for a while. Now it is on my Mini-14.

Ive got the 42mm, 5MOA red dot. I got it from Cabela's for $19.99 a couple of months ago when it was on sale.
I went with a UTG 1/2" riser from Opticsplanet. No matter where you get it, 1/2 will get you exact co-witness. 3/4" riser will obviously get you the 1/3 co-witness. I got a spare 3/4 riser if anyone is looking for this.
And like buzzard said, the mount flips so it universal to dovetail/pictanny. I really like the dot, brightness is good in daylight and can be seen in sunny weather. For the price I couldn't resist. Ill try to get a photo up a little later today.

Anyone have a pic looking down the sight. I'm looking on opticsplanet, cabela's and midway now. I've got alot of choices. Thinking i want to look at a few specs i'm not sure what they mean and whats a good standard. I see:
Parallax adjusted
the mm spec ie 42mm
Eye relief
Most of the ones i looked at said 4x32
Does it matter if it states rimfire or center fire?

The 5 MOA dot gets pretty big at 100 yards. Yet I am not using it to hit bullets holes with it. It is quick to find the target and puts lead on target.

Would I still need the 3/4 riser with this UTG Iden. How can you tell?

Yes.
It's pretty easy to tell. Which optic doesn't have a built in riser as part of the mount?

How do you know what size riser. How would you know if you need a 3/4 or 1/2. I see wildwildwest post above that he's using 1/2 riser for his sight.

3/4 will give you lower 1/3 co-witness with that particular sight. You can use a 1/2 if you like. It will give the effect of pushing the iron sights up into the glass more (absolute co-witness). I have a Tapco MNT0931. It is composite and matches the rifle finish quite well. 3/4 It is also a good height to use with a scope and low rings.
Many of the things you're agonizing over will become more clear when you buy some optics/accessories and find out what you like the best for the type shooting you do, your ability, eyesight, comfort, rifle appearance and a host of other things you'll find unique to you. Notice in the pic thread there are very few if any rifles outfitted exactly the same. Here's a sampling of some of the sighting stuff I've had on my 15-22 over the past year. Center rear is a BSA RD30 with a Tapco Composite 3/4 riser.

I'm going to cabelas to get a few things atleast i can return them if i don't like them.
I like the idea of absolute co-witness, but it seems it would defeat the purpose of the red dot as you could just use the iron sights. And lower 1/3 co-witness would allow the red and iron sights to be used separately, correct?
