I just got the MOE Dark Earth for my 15 22, and the buffer tube is a mil spec. It slides right on, granted the pin is a !@#% to slide down, but it works great.

Will someone knowledgable please describe the difference between a 'commercial' and 'milspec' stock?
I see all magpul, Vltor, etc stocks are all offered in either configuration.
Thanks!

commerical tubes are.. well here see for yourself. I've uploaded a pic to my photobucket and then shared this picture here. Hope this helps you out. On a side note, I tried to fit a Commercial MOE stock onto my 15 22 and even though its the LARGER of the two types, it was almost having to be forced onto the buffer tube. The reason is, the 15 22 is a mil spec tube, however the rail underneath is slightly larger. I know it sounds wierd, but a milspec ( smaller of the 2) fits perfectly, and a commercial( larger) it a very tight fit, due to the underlying rails "slightly larger" thickness.

If you're asking about the Magpul MOE stock, get the Mil Spec size for your M&P15-22.. I ordered the Commercial size earlier and it didn't fit right on the "buffer tube".. the M&P's rail on the buffer tube is too thick and was a tight fit for the Commercial size.. I upgraded to the Mil Spec CTR version and it fits perfect.

That is EXACTLY what I said, in the comment directly above yours lol. The 1522, while it is a mil spec has a thicker than usual under rail on it.

I've never heard it called anything but a bufer tube. Not saying im right, and you're wrong.. just saying thats even what the part is listed as when you go to buy one. At least every where Ive looked. If it is actually called a Reciever extension.. it must be the accepted term to use buffer tube as well, to be listed as such basicly on every parts site and catalog. I see, in a search I find many results for reciever extension. But also doing the same seach for buffer tube also takes you to sites for parts. I guess I just learned something today. Thanks for the info.
