Default Need some info on 29 2, 25-2, Model 41

I recently got these from my dad and I'm tying to find some history behind them. I'm not up to speed on the different grips and barrel lengths that make some models unique. I hope someone on here can shed some light. Thanks for your help.

The first is a 29 2. N702XXX

And the second is 25-2. N449XXX

The third is a model 41. A600XXX

All three of the guns you have are the real deal and some of S&W's best.

The 29-2 has a 6 inch barrel and has what we call football target grips and was made in 1980. The 4 inch and 6.5 inch barreled 29-2's are sought after more then the 6 inch barrelled 29-2. You have the presentation case which is a big plus and if you have the tools and paperwork then you have a super winner.

The 25-2 that you have was made in 1977/1978 and has a 6.5 inch barrel and also has the football target grips. These are very popular revolvers and are a blast to shoot 45 ACP rounds through with moon clips. You have the presentation case which is a big plus and if you have the tools and paperwork then you have a super winner.

The Model 41 is one of the best 22 semi auto pistols ever made and yours was made in late 1979 and your has a desireable A serial number only bettered by ones with no alpha in front of the serial number. Your doesn't have the cocking indicator in the rear of the slide that was deleted in 1978. You also have the box for it and maybe the tools and paperwork ?

All three of these guns are excellent shooters and worth high dollars in todays market but hoperfully you plan on keeping them. Do not store the revolvers in the presentation cases as the case can hold mositure and evenually dammage the finish on the guns.

I hope this information helps.

The 29-2 looks to be 6.5" barrel since the end of the tape measure is not at the end of the muzzle.

My 29-2 measures out at 6.5", also I believe the 6" barrel did not make an appearance until the 29-3 as I think that is when S&W standardized barrel lengths to 6".

Your Dad definitely picked some hands down winners, hanging on to them is the right thing to do.

+1 on not storing the 29-2 and 25-2 in the presentation cases, those vacuumed formed plastic trays are thin and also can get brittle with age and will eventually crack. They aren't supported underneath either and the weight of those big N-Frames also catches up with them.

Blued guns really benefit by storing them after being wiped down with Renaissance wax, which a specialty wax used by museums for protecting and conserving items. It's not cheap at about $20 a can, but a little goes a long way.

That is definately a 6" 29-2. I like that length much better than the 6.5".

S&W standardized at 6" for the barrel in '79.

They are all fine guns, and I am glad that you will be keeping them. They are of far more value since they were your dads, and I am sure he would be happy that you want to kep them too.

Glad you are keeping them but you have about the three most enjoyable handguns S&W ever made for shooting.

Take them out and give them some exercise and you'll see what I mean.

From the throat, or face (where the bullet enters the barrel) to the end of the barrel. And WOW!!! Some nice guns for sure.........I shoot my 5.5" model 41 very accurately. You will have a blast,.....pardon the pun.....

I have a 29-2, 25-2 and M41 and they all shoot great - some of the best by S&W. I am glad you will be keeping them in the family - shoot and enjoy.

If varies by location but yours are in primo shape and have the presentation case or boxes. If you also have the complete tool kits and paperwork you can add some to these numbers.

I'll take a stab

29-2 6 inch $700 to $800
25-2 6.5 inch $700 to $800
Model 41 $800 to $900

These are just estimates based on what I've seen recently and not knowing how much these were fired. The presentation cases sell for $100 to collectors

Agree on the Renaissance Wax. It's great for preservation. Use gun oil in areas that need to be oiled for protection and function; Renaissance Wax on the rest of the revolvers including stocks (inside and out).
