They should save the taxpayers dollars and keep using the old ones like we do.

That's a great idea. Why change up handguns every few years when most are used only to qualify once or twice annually then just carried around. I guess if they did that though the "LEO trade ins" wouldn't be as abundant.

They use glocks so they have something brick-ish to throw if they run out of bullets.

+1 They could also save a lot of taxpayer money by testing and adopting a single handgun for all federal LE agencies rather than having each agency go through a multi year test procedure and then adopting something different. Of course, each agency would scream bloody murder that they have "unique needs" that require something special. Yeah right!

The ATF awarded the contract to Smith & Wesson after a rigorous, multi-step evaluation was conducted on the M&P40 full-size and compact pistols. The evaluation consisted of a multiple- agent, live-fire assessment of 5,000 rounds. Additionally, the pistols were fired 15,000 rounds during the endurance phase of the test, for a total of 20,000 rounds each. The pistols were further subjected to an environmental exposure test and a post-endurance evaluation.
