look under my name in the "smithing" forum and you will see what happened to my 686. It has since been sent back.

I had a very positive experience with the factory refinish on two of my revolvers. One was a Model 19 and the other was a Model 28. Both were refinished in the flat/brush blue. Both were done very well and are beautiful. Can't say enough about the work and how well it was done. Working on trying to get pics for examination. I'd would say there is always something that can happen but any problems should be addressed by the Customer Relations Dept. I would not hesitate to send any of my other Smith/Wesson back to the factory for work or refinishing.

Refinished 10-6
I take the worst pictures but I sent my old Model 10 back to be refinished and reblued. It was issued to me in 1970 and I carried it for about 20 yrs. I was not even the first officer to have carried it but was the last. It was so beat up I just told them to fix whatever it needed and blue it. I had very little expectations and they did have it a pretty long time. When it arrived I honestly didn't recognize it except for the grips. It is now so beautiful I don't know if I can bring myself to shoot it-not counting the grips of course. I just wish I would have taken a picture of it with all the surface rust and scratches that were on it before I sent it in. I had given it to a son yrs ago who had not taken care of it so I took it back. I wouldn't lose any sleep over your guns. I'm sure they will be fine.

I sent my Smith & Wesson 627 Pro Series back to have an action job and had them do the polished stainless steel refinishing. I was amazed by the quality of mine. They polished off the "Pro Series" that was below the cylinder, but they did re-stamp the Smith logo on the side. I am very satisfied with the polished stainless steel look. I currently carry it on duty and get tons of people commenting on it. I had one lady say my gun was so shiny she could use it to put her make up on. Those of you in law enforcement know you can't make stuff like that up.

I had a Model 28-2 and a Model 15-2 or -3 sent back for refinishing, and I was very happy with the work performed.

When you send a gun back to the factory for reblue do you have to specify the performance center are is it all the same?

You just go through normal channels. I never asked for the performance center. I just specified what finish I wanted, then they sent me an estimate via regular mail and once I approved it and returned it, they went to work when my gun came up in the rotation.

New Heirloom!
I just bought a Model 10 - it was the first gun I learned to shoot. From what I see here I think it may be going back to Smith for the redo (after I shoot it a bit). Thanks.
