need assist on a 18 no dash
Not familiar with this model. Should I expect to pay more ($650) for a model 18 no dash vs. one of the latter versions? Its a 4" barrel 6 digit serial numbered gun, no letter prefix( I believe). Gun is around 95%. original diamond grips. I think it is an early 60's production.
Thanks.

While I don't have a Mod 18 no dash, I do have a 18-4. While I was looking for the Mod 18 it seemed the no dash models were always more expensive if you could even find them than the later dash models. The Mod 18 no dash production only lasted about 2 years if I remember correctly which is why they are more collectible.

I posted the same question about a Model 48 no dash. The general consensus was that for someone who just wants a Model 48 (or 18 in your case), there is probably not much difference in value, but for a collector, they would pay more for the different variations, depending on how long they were made or production number. So to a collector, a Model 18 no dash made for only two years would be worth more than a Model 18-3 made for 10 years.

A 95% gun shouldn't be this much. A 98-99% gun maybe yes.

I may have misspoken on the reply regarding the Mod 18 no dash, the pre 18 was first produced in 1949 and I don't really know how many years the Mod 18 no dash was produced and I am not near the book at this time.
I have both an 18-4 and the 48-4. As SS explains I think the Mod 48 was only produced for a few years and are more scarce. This explanation may not apply to the Mod 18.
Old age is heck and the memory is the first to go.

The model number first appeared on the Mod 18 in 1957.
The 18-1 came out in 1959.
I would be on that gun like a duck on a June bug.
Best,
Gary

Thanks for all your replies. I greatly appreciate everyone's knowledge, and their willingness to share information.
Gary, I did exactly as you suggested. I jumped on it. We did the "handshake over the phone" and he will hold it for me untill I drop off a check to him.
I'll post some pics of it as soon as it is home.
