Default First time Sigma 40VE problem today.

Bought a used 40VE about a year ago and it has functioned flawlessly with FMJ and HP ammo. Today, using Winchester White box, I had a consistent problem of the next round not fully going into battery. Extraction was not the problem, the fresh round just couldn't find the hole leaving the slide slightly open. I'd pull the slide rearward slightly and release it. This would snap the round into battery. In 50 rounds, this happened at least 10 times. I've used many rounds of Winchester WB and the gun was clean. Any suggestions?

Tried 3 mags, one near new the other 2 came with the gun (used). Kind of a mystery.

Is this the bulk pack stuff? I won't use it anymore after getting two underpowered rounds out of one box, my shooting buddy actually picked up the bullet from the ground two feet in front of me.

There has been a few reports of problems with WWB ammo.
So I would try another brand to rule that out.

I have had a similar experience a couple of times when I have two different pistols at the range with me.
If the grip on each are different, I have found that my thumb was riding the side of the slide.
Sometimes it would cycle fine.
But a few times it wouldn't drive the round home.
A good smack on the back of the slide corrected the problem.

Might not be your problem, but a suggestion none the less!!
Sorry for the troubles! Let us know how it turns out!!
Best of luck!

Wife has this problem every now and then, usually caused by a light grip. Make sure you are holding the grip tight.

No, it's not the grip. I've been shooting for 40 years and haven't limp wristed a round yet. In fact, I've tried to intentionally limp wrist my 2 Sigmas when I first bought them and only had one FTE. I cleaned the 40VE thoroughly this morning and all looks well. The plastic base of the recoil rod/spring where it locks to the barrel is deformed a bit, but it has always been like that. Maybe that is becoming an issue. The plastic base at the rear end of the recoil spring is uneven and a bit battered. But again, it's been like that since I bought it used. I'll try it again Sunday.

A new recoil rod/spring is only a couple of bucks... Might want to do that anyway just to be on the safe side.

Clean it. Wire brush the chamber out. I bet you've got something stuck in there.

All the Best,

Measure the ammo. It could be out of spec dimensionally. I had some .45 acp that would not chamber right in my M&P .45. Set the ammo aside. Measured it out when I got home and sure enough. Out of spec. Ran it through my sizing die and all was great.

I have shot a couple of hundred rounds of that ammo and even at rapid fire I have had no problems. I also bought mine used, so I have no idea how much it has been shot, but something to keep my eye on for sure.

Nothing stuck in there, but I did clean the chamber with a .45 cal brush. There was plenty to be cleaned, too. The chamber was fairly grimy. Even after scouring with the brush I was still getting black grime with a toothbrush and Hoppe's #9. Might have been the problem, I'll find out Sunday. Funny, sometimes you overlook the obvious.
