Default nickelplated top break with MOP grips

purchased this one today ,a 5 inch nickelplated top break in 38s&w
don't know for sure but I think it's a third model, the grips have a perfect fit and looks original to the gun, some minor scratches on surface , barrel looks like new serial is 147486
when was the gun made? and what about value on this gun

thanks for any kind of info on this gun

Hi, reinhard:
I refered to one of the S&W books that I have entitled, Standard Catalog of S&W. As close as I can tell It is the fourth mod., and they were made From 1898-1907, from ser.#116003-220000. You can estimate the mfg. date, or have it papered by S&W. Another good referance book is, History of S&W by Roy G. Jinks.

Definitely a 4th Model - the 3rd Model had a different top-break release. #158303 shipped 8/02, so this one is probably 1900-1902. Beautiful gun!

600 was a steal. I saw one almost as nice as this without those lovely grips change hands at a show for 750 and the seller had five people lined up to buy it within a minute of it going out on his table
