Default Model 43 question

I have a nice 3.5 inch model 43, serial # 642XX. Two questions: First, the crane has a number of 479XX. Is it common to have a different crane number on these guns, or may I assume that the crane/cylinder were switched at some point? Second, can anyone provide a born on date for this revolver? Thanks for any information.

Your crane number means nothing and will not match your serial number. Your serial # dates 1955

1955? Interesting. I would have thought this gun would date to the mid/late '60's. Thanks for the information. By the way, what's your 20 on your LE status? I'm in D.C.

A bit more research shows the born on date to be 1960-61.
