Default highway patrolman info/questions

Hi new to the forum. Picked up last year on impulse a highway patrol man in the s111 serial range. S&W historical letter puts it as in the first couple months of production. It's about 90% finish and has the original serial number stocks. What are these going for these days? It is a nice gun but I just find the N-Frame a little unwieldy compared to the K-frame.
Any idea how many 5-screw HP's were made?

Certainly is an early one, but in 90% it's a $450 to my way of thinking.
They made 5 screw 28s for about 4 years 'til they started model marking, so based on your serial number and my no dash 28 they made about 70,000 5 screw N-frames during that time period, but how many of those were 28s I don't think anyone knows.

Hi Major, congrats on the early HP. I have #S1113xx so they must be pretty close. I'd like to see a picture of your's if you can post one. Is it a 4" or 6"?
N frames are large but they do soak up the magnums recoil.

Not really but they do show up all through the S1035oo ~ S169ooo range so there could have been 10s of thousands of them.

At one time I owned S 110231 and it was in the same condition as you describe. About 15 years ago in a fit of idiosy (during the Clinton Administration) I traded it for a polymer frame 9mm. As pennance I replaced it last November with a newer one having a N serial number. I sure wish I still had the first one. Enjoy yours and don't do anything stupid with it like I did.

I picked up mine for around $475. They have a great double action trigger and they can handle any 357 round out there. Just a classic look with that tapered barrel and classy ejector housing.

Yes, I also like the K frames very much, but I like having both guns because I'll never put the hot (+fun) Buffalo Bore through my minty 19.

Default Latest M28

These are my two M28s. The first is a 28-2 S282028. Asking price was $400.00 OTD which I thought was kind of high given the condition. Looked at it on and off for a month or so and eventually swapped a bunch of older Ruger catalogs and other shooting/outdoor paraphernalia that had been gathering dust in my workshop for decades for $175.00 in trade. Shoot it at my club's monthly steel plate/silhouette/fun/action/combat shoots and am having an absolute ball with it.

And can it shoot:

There's just something about shooting a 6" N frame Smith that wants to you to "keep on truckin' " :

Saw this for $489.00 and couldn't say no (28-2 N564890):

Don't like the target grips - too big for my hand and the gun feels awkward and heavy compared to the other one. Buddy that I shoot with has two pair of standard N-frame grips and he said I can have my pick - WOW - nice guy.
