Price check and compact models question
First question, what is the approx value of this, 5904, unknown round count but the gun is like new on the inside, gun only with 4 mags. Never fired by myself. I already shoot .40 and .45, have nothing in 9mm and not sure I want to add another caliber...
Second question, what are the model numbers of 3rd gen compacts in .40 and .45? Possibly compact versions of the 4506 and 4006. S&W has sooo many models its silly.
Thanks, Rob

Sorry I can't help you with the price on this one Rob, I can however help with the compact 40s. The orginial compact 40 was the Shorty 40 from the Performance Center. This was built on a 6906 alloy frame, but the model number is still 4006.
The single stack compact was the early 4013, this model later moved to a double stack magazine which makes it a production Shorty 40 so to speak. The one thing I've never been able to get an answer for is does the 4013 double stack use the 45 slide or the 9 mm slide. The 4013 single stack uses the 45 frame which makes is it a little bulky for me. Part of my affection for the 40 is that I get it in a 9 mm sized gun.
I don't think anyone will argue that the 3913 is the best concealment pistol that S&W ever made. They did make a scandium frame 40 version that is the same size as the 3913 in the 4040PD. These are scarce so finding one may be a problem.
Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Sam

The 4013TSW and 4513TSW are both nice compact size, both are based on an alloy frame and stainless slide. I forgot to mention the CS40 and CS45.

Thanks for the info guys. I will likely keep the 04 as it will be a good pistol to start the kids and others who may be recoil shy. Plus, its sort of unique in the fact that its a SS/alloy 5904, not the usual blued.

yes, it looks like a 5903, but stamped 5904???? I would send smith the money to get a background and letter on that one.

Just call S&W with the serial number and they should be able to give you the SKU. If it left the factory like that it should have a unique SKU, most were 108xxx something.
