Which S&W used in tv show "Blue Bloods"
I was watching that new TV show with Tom Selleck and Donnie Wahlberg last night. It looks like Donnie is using a S&W but couldn't tell which one. It appears to be a 3rd generation 45. Anyone catch this?

S&W 5946 9mm DAO.
Was an issue weapon for the NYPD.
On my new list of must haves.

And Selleck's character was wearing a revolver passed down from his grandfather to his father to him. Said it was a "Fitz Special" or something like that. Never got a good look.

A "Fitz Special" is a Colt DA revolver, slicked up and with the trigger guard cut away for fast access. FitzGerald was a Colt employee. Reference to a "Fitz Special" in the story line is the mark of a true gun nut somewhere. I know Selleck is pretty gun savvy.

All episodes up to last week Donnie Walberg's character was using the Glock 19. Last week he used the S&W 5946 (as stated earlier, DAO 9mm). Those are two of the three currently authorized pistols for MOS, the other being the SIG P226DAO.

I hate when tv cops switch their weapons like that. It is a nightmare trying to switch your duty weapon. I think the prop master just hands whatever guns he wants to whichever actor is in front of him.

DAO, full size, no-levers, all stainless. The 5946 was and is an approved weapon for the NYPD, so someone at the show actually knows what they're doing. The 4046 (.40S&W version) has a slightly different profile.

They got their guns right, but they screwed up alot of other stuff. The Police Commissioner doesn't wear a uniform for one thing. The uniform Selleck wears is the Chief of Department's uniform....I'm just gonna stop right now, it's a TV show and you'd have to be a NYPD cop to catch half this stuff.

OK, I can see that its a DAO and perhaps full size. But what makes it an all stainless, and not the stainless/alloy. What do you mean by no levers? cant see under his finger for the 10MM lever. (at least in this pic) and if I wasnt an NYPD, how would I know what their approved weapon was/is?
Not doubting you, just learning....

It's a full size 9mm, you can tell by it's profile and slide length. Most S&W 3rd gens with alloy frames look all "silver" at first, but tend to fade into a slight tan as they age. We know it is an older model because it has a flash chromed trigger and hammer (newer production guns are MIM). "No levers" implies no safety levers on the slide, so it's not a DA/SA. You can also tell it is a DAO by the rear of the slide being longer than it would be on a non-DAO to partially conceal the bobbed hammer. The only full size 9mm with a frame mounted decocker is the 5926 and it has slightly different grips (not checkered on the left side top and they stick out more). Since we know the character is supposed to be NYPD and they approved the 5946 for duty use, we presume the props guys used a 5946. You can do a Google search on what guns different departments approve.

Thought I spotted a 3rd Gen Smith in the show Detroit 187 last night, girl pulled one on the cops in a church. The only thing I could tell from the few glimpses I caught was an alloy frame, and from size, most likely 6906 or 5903 as it appeared to have decocker.

There was a 3913 Lady Smith on Hawaii 5o on Monday. The female cop was using it.

Good catch, but I believe it was a 4013. They showed the empty S&W blue case in the beginning and said it was the same caliber that the victim was shot with (which was a .40S&W).
Good to see so many 3rd gens popping up in these shows.

On Hawaii Five-0 McGarret uses the new Sig 226 E2, "Danno" carries the Sig 2009, Chin Ho Kelly uses the S&W 5906 and Kono uses the S&W 3913.
Also Warrick Brown on CSI: carried a S&W 5906 before being killed off and Nick Stokes carries a S&W99 Two Tone (which looks very good).

Thanks, I had forgotten they mentioned it was a .40 cal. Thought the barrel looked larger than 9mm, but didn't see it enough to identify. All I know is I wouldn't have wanted to be on the other end the way she was waving it around.

I remember seeing an episode of CSI Miami about a year ago. I don't watch it regularly, but I remember a female detective was on the street and a car was baring down on her, with someone shooting a gun and she shot the driver who crashed into building. Remember her saying it was a S&W 459--only remember as I used to own one.

Yes, that was the episode where Calliegh gunned down the two suspects tring to run her over. She mentioned it was a S&W 659 with adjustable sights. Calliegh also in the first 3 seasons carried a 3913LS.
