Default sending in the sigma... GOT IT BACK TODAY

im sending in the sigma for repairs, just waiting on the pre paid sticker, anyways i was told by a frank branchesi that s&w does not do trigger work because i asked if they would smooth it out for me, is this true. i thought i read a few other post of guys sending in their piece and saying they wanted trigger work done and them getting it? anything i should ask them to do while they have it? will they send it back to me or does it have to go to a ffl place, i have never had to send in a gun for repair, they didnt answer me on this question. i had to deal with this through email, because i work wacky hours. any info wouldbe great, how long does the process usually take? i was told they were sending me the sticker on friday and its still not here? thanks all

There is some kind of spring removal issue you can do if you want to smooth it out yourself. I believe it has been covered in this forum before. It seems there is a double spring that when one is removed it is like a magic transformation for the Sigma. I sold mine before I ever heard this so I have no info on the validity of this though. I'm sure Smith would give you the stink eye if you ever had to send it in though so as it has been said before... YMMV...

S&W won't do a "trigger job" , however if you complain that the trigger pull is "mushy and gritty" they polish out the sear, which helps a lot. Removal of springs has been discussed to death on here.

They sent mine directly back to me. An adult has to sign for it. I think it was about 3 weeks between the time I sent it and when I got it back.

And I think your sticker will be there pretty soon.

http://http://smith-wessonforum.com/smith-wesson-sigma-pistols/144998-anybody-have-problems-ammo.html this is why. anyways i know all about the spring removal deal and i did it along with the pigtail removal but i put it all back together, cause i read to many bad post about it, so i made my decision, it wasnt for me, although there are plenty of members on here that swear by it and have had 1000's of reliable shots made with the mod, either way i would rather they (s&w) do the job. i did explain the trigger was gritty and they basically in not so many words told me too bad, thats why i was asking cause i thought others had made that statement to them and they recieved their gun back a lot better. also, still no sticker today, hopefully tomorrow, im sick of carrying this damn 12 ga around the house, lmao. thanks

Forgive me if I don't quite understand sir, but; it sounds like you're looking to get a free trigger job.

We have debated this until the cows came home here in this forum. Those who have taken my advise, as well as the advise of others, and left their sigma alone, are usually happy campers with the way it performs. Some have had good results monkeying with springs, and some have not; and some just refuse to accept the sigma for what it is.

I know of one member who has over 15 or 16K through his "stock" sigma without ever having a problem.

Sorry to hear that your gun has some issues and wish I could help.

dont get me wrong, as you make me sound like im trying to scam something? i was just under the impression if you had to get it serviced they would take out some of the grit for you. thats all, from what i read anyways. no biggie ill just learn to live with it. it is what it is, right? thanks. p.s. still no sticker, grrrr, maybe tomorrow. do i need to buy a box at fedex or can i use any box and just slap the sticker on there.

Your blue case will fit into a FedEx Express box; there is no charge for that box at FedEx.

It was three days after the call to S&W for the pre paid lable to show up in the email.The FedEx box was free but I had to schedule an at home pick up because my local pick up center will not accept firearms.The firearm will be shipped directly to my home with an adult signature required after repair is completed.

thanks guys, i just got a call from the wife, she says the sticker came today. as far as the free box, do i need to show them the label and is there more than one size, just wondering because i need to send her in to get it as i have to work, and i dont need her calling me confused, id rather tell her exactly what she needs to have/get. then she just tells them to come get it while she is there? thanks for the insight

ok, the letter that came with the label says i have to inform the employee its a firearm? my question is that safe to do, especially with fedex, they "loose" way to much stuff for my comfort. yeah it says its insured through s&w but if it does get "lost" thats one more gun on the streets for the criminals, i dont like that. theres no markings needed on the box and the label just says SAW, not S&W, so i think no words need to be spoken about the boxe's content, anyone agree? can i get in trouble for NOT telling them? thanks

Yes. You can get in trouble for not disclosing you are shipping a firearm. Just tell them. It is not marked as a firearm or Smith & Wesson for the exact reason you fear telling the driver. If it were marked, then everyone who sees the package would know what it was. If you think the FedEx driver is a theif, take it into one of their offices yourself. (Be sure to tell them of your concerns with your driver.)

well i finally got it back from smith and wesson. no explaination of what they found, paperwork just said, customer complaint: broken components, installed new extractor. customer complaint: misfire, installed new striker assembly. it looks like they put maybe 3 rounds through it, even though i told em it happen sporatically, well, oh well i guess, something is better than nothing. the extractor looks identical to the one they replaced? oh and the icing on the cake, my rear sights are scooted over at least 3/16 of an inch, they are WAY over. why would they do that, its not like they just move freely, you have to beat them over? gonna call em tomorrow. havnt got to shoot it yet either, and probably wont for awhile. but why in the world would they scoot my sights like that, kinda ticked. fast service though, hope it fixed the problem, even though the parts they swapped were identical. any of this make any sense? thanks

The rear site is fairly easy to bump/move. When you build something to a price point, some components will not be top shelf. The rear sight is a good example. While the sight slides laterally in their slot, they can be moved if bumped. It would have been better to put them on a screw actuated mechanism but this design costs a few pennies more...

i mean you have move it with force, alot, on mine anyways. i cant push it with my fingers, so my question is how did they move it, were they bangin on it, because ive stripped it down completley a whole bunch of times and never did it involve banging or moving sights. also how did they not notice it? it is VERY noticable, i mean they test fired it obviously so how didnt they see it? wierd. just asking, there is no reason that they would have had to move the sights on purpose right?

No sweat to move the sights on a Sigma. Just take a small hammer and a nylon rod ( cutoff piece of toothbrush handle will do) and tap it to where you want it.

I sent my 40 sigma to LSG ( one of the smith warranty centers) when the extractor broke, he did a trigger job under warranty. It totally changed the gun, much easier to shoot now

S&W failed to tell me exactly what they did as well. Ruger did the same thing, I had to write a complaint letter and asked them to provide a detailed description of what the problem was (light strikes.) I want to know for future reference- and I may ask S&W for an explanation, too, but have no complaints so...may not.

I told the FedEx guy when I sent mine in last month and he had no idea about that policy. He was shocked I told him. Most of their people probably don't even know the policy.
