OK some of this is pure speculation on my part but it is what the gun seems to Say to me.

Charles Johnson began service with the Fort Worth Police Department in 1895. From what I have found through the FW police Historical Foundation he appears to have been involved in some kind of fatal shooting of Mexican Robbery suspects which is also on the vintage hangtag that came with the gun. while I am not sure this is the gun he used but it was definately a used gun when it went to Wolf & Klar for its current enhancement. You can see the use in the bore and Cylinder prior to the plating process. It appears to be unfired since plating it was originally a Nickel gun. The gun did not ship to Wolf & Klar but The Engraving is identical to 3 other guns I own and the Pearl Steerhead are marked with a Roman numeral X, the gold is staked into place just like the NM Sheriffs gun I own which is a Wolf & Klar Gun. the Gold piece on the left panel is a Indian Head 5 dollar gold piece from the 1920's. It came with a display case but am pretty sure it is from a later date as it is cut out styrofoam.

I am just thrilled with this new accuisition and can hardly wait to get them all out and do a photo shoot. Ed you can just go fly a kite

That looks better every view I see of it. There is no question but that is W&K work. And you can certainly imagine that if Mr. Johnson had used it to take out two bank robbers he, or his department, would have honored the piece with a little decoration and then retired it.
