Opinions of the new model 40 Classic please
I am considering a new model 40 classic in nickel and would like to hear opinions from those who actually own one.
I have read a lot about the "new" Smiths, good and bad but all that aside, your thoughts on this particular model would be greatly appreciated.
Interested in overall fit and finish, especially the polishing before the plating, feel in the hand and trigger pull.
Again I thank you for your replies. Bob

Bought a blue and nickel in 2009. The finish on the nickel is outstanding. Everything is tight. It felt like the old S&W company was back. I have never fired the nickel one. The blue one is one of my carry guns. I did have to install a Tyler Grip to make the gun fit my big hands.

Thanks Luis, That's the kind of feedback I wanted to hear.
Anybody else own one of these? How about the DAO trigger pull?

I traded for one that a member here had.It is a very nice looking revolver, the nickle looks great.Double action trigger pull to me is very nice.I have no problem clearing 5 plates from the 15 yard rack. The only thing I did to mine was add a T grip adapter.

Don't know about the 40 but I have handled the Classic Model 27's and was very impressed. It looks like S&W was going for a "hybrid" of a 27 and 28 with this one....... I am selling a lot of my rifles and am searching for one of the new 27 4" to turn up used somewhere......the nearly $1,000 price tag is hard for me to digest......

I have one I like very much, beautiful gun, its my bedroom gun. will never
fire it unless I am forced to- then I wont care. One thing however, is the grip safety
was so stiff I couldnt depress it reliably, so I had a local gunsmith deactivate
it by removing the Flippy Lever ( technical gun talk) , which seemed the easiest
way. knock the pin out, remove lever, put pin back in, in case you want to put
smaller grips kn at some time , there ya go.......

My daily carry is an M42 (the airweight version of the M40).
I sold my M40 because it was too heavy for pocket carry.
I really like the M42 and the trigger pull is good. I suspect it will get even smoother over time.
Then again, my second handgun was a revolver, so I've been shooting them since 1977.

I live in Illinois (sigh..) , but if we ever get concealed carry, the m40
will be my choice. I figure in a situation where I need it, I will already
be so wired up I would be best served with the simplest gun to operate.
