Do all 617's come with the Internal Lock?
I'm going to buy one as my 1st S&W (4"). I really don't want the lock feature any way around it? Anyplace to buy a 1/2 shroud or did I miss the boat on that? Thanks Joe

Look for a 617 no-dash through -4. -5 (6-shot) and -6 (10-shot; current production) are lock-models. There wasn't a "half-shroud" barrel for the 617; it was either a no-lug, no-shroud barrel (very rare, definitely 6", maybe 4") or a full-lug/shrouded ejector rod barrel (common).
Edit: Alternatively, Bullseye Smith sells a $25 plug kit for the ILS. You could get a recent production 617 and then 'plug' the lock.

I bought this 617-4, 4 inch 10 shot right here in the classifieds. Might be the last gun I would sell.

Just an added note, if your concerned about the lock self activating on the 617, don't worry about it. The 617 is heavy enough that the recoil with the 22LR is almost nill. If you don't want the lock on Principle, that's fine. Just be aware that some of the early 10 shooters were equipped with aluminum cylinders and they are not the preferred cylinder in the 617.
Personally, my favorite version is the original no dash 6 shooter. However, I'm a crusty old fart who occasionally has problems counting past 6, so I like the tradition of a 6 shooter and find the concept of a 10 shot revolver a bit "odd".
Whatever version you get, I predict that you end up wondering why you didn't get one sooner. They are some of the most fun you can have with your clothes on and not at all costly to shoot.

I have a 617-6 Plus. 4-inch barrel. It has the lock. Not a problem, and it is one very accurate gun.

No need to be sorry, I knew the seller was not you. I have not seen him here in awhile though.

+1 on the "no worries" idea.....the IL will never give you a problem with the .22 LR. Just don't use it, and shoot away..........The incidents of "lock ups" were isolated and associated with the .357 snubs and maybe a few .500's, and even these were very few.
I have a 617-6 6", mounted a variable 1.5x-6x scope, and switch it off with a fixed 4x on occasion. It's just pure fun, at 25 yards with the 6x magnification, makes for some fun backyard benchrest shooting. I love seeing those little .22 holes appear on the paper through the optic, it's like shooting a .22 revolving hand rifle
