Hello. I am interested in the Model 36, but am confused about the serial number listed. Early J-frame revolvers (1950-1969) had serial numbers with no prefix, so I don't understand the AHR5xxx. Can you help with this? Thanks!

Don't know what to tell you. On the frame under the crane it says "MOD. 36", on the bottom of the grip frame is the serial number "AHR5XXX". I have the latest copy of the SCSW and it doesn't tell me anything specific to the "AHR" prefix. I'm as confused as you but it's stamped in the metal so it must be so.
