Default Credit due to S&W for BodyGuard 380

Hi,
S&W Bodyguard 380 was in my hands for 24 hours. After that S&W had it for 2 months for 2 separate returns due to the lockdown pin falling out. Smith finally replaced it with a new one. Their good on their word about warranty. The newly manufactured one has a much heavier retaining spring and the indent in the locking pin is deeper to keep the pin in place. Hurray, they listened. I put a 100 rounds through it today and not a single hiccup.

The lockdown pin is hard to remove before cleaning. Better that way than have it fall out while shooting.

It's a bit hard to see the front sight against a dark background, but I "painted" it with chalk at the range and it improved my consistency tremendously. I'm going to paint a white dot on the front sight. Sure, it's a point and shoot defensive weapon, but seeing the front sight easily is comforting.

All in all, you guys and gals that are waiting for the "fix" for the BodyGuard 380, have no fear, S&W fixed the problem. Just wish they repeatedly fired a few demo's on the earlier ones to figure it out before they released it. Nothing like giving away a bunch for users to try to get the bugs out. Sort of like beta testing software before it's release.

I'd do it again. It's a great CC gun, just the right size and weight, and accurate.

Good luck with yours. Hope you never have to use it in a real live situation.

Sawdust, does your new one have the redesigned frame with the collar around the laser activation buttons?

Mag,
Yes, there is a collar around the laser button. Does that mean it's a newly designed frame? The spring and pin are very different than the original.

While its good that S&W did right by you.....eventually, its sad that S&W's design, manufacturing and QA/QC departments aren't as great as their customer service.

Perhaps I'm just old, but the thing I used to admire about S&W was their quality. I never needed their customer service......or to return brand new S&W's. Regards 18DAI.

I can appreciate your sentiment, but I had a Model 19 in 1976 that was broken right out of the box and they never did fix it right. The good old days may or may not be as good as we remember them.

Anything made by man can and will eventually fail.

I'm happy with the "new gun" they sent me. I originally sent my BG380 in for the right side laser button being too hard to activate and 3 weeks later they sent me what I have now, plus a clip and two batteries. Customer service not so great with getting back with you but really good about making it right. Thanks S&W
