Californians: 629 UDR coming soon to "the list"
This week I've been talking with a very competent person at the CA DOJ about the 629 UDR Performance Center being added to the list. Back in July when I was enquiring about the 627 UDR, they stated that the 629 UDR was also slated for addition to the safe handguns list.
Well the 629 UDR should be added to the list in "the next week or so". I was told if I didn't see it added to the list in the next week, to give another call and see what the progress is. So start saving those pennies:-)

how nice of the king to allow his subjects the privilege of owning one of these. you should kiss his toes. .........do you know how sad that sounds? I know you point but that is just insane. I guess this close after the elections I have such disgust for communist govts.

That is great news, I wonder why Smith & Wesson didn't get it on the list the same time as the M627PC last month? Wonder if anything else is being Ok'd next week besides the M629PC? I could think of a few others right off the top of my head, hmmmmm well that is another thread altogether! Great news on the M629PC though!!!

Thanks for your efforts Jessegpresley - really appreciate having a fellow S&W addict here in California keep the ball rolling to make sure these guns get on the Roster!
(I just picked up my 627 UDR earlier today after its 10-day timeout)

Unfortunately for gunnies in California, we are a minority. All the gun laws in this state reflect this reality.
Even after Heller and MacDonald, it takes time and money to sue the state to comply.
If it really offends you, send some money to the NRA Members' Councils here in California to help push back the tide. I certainly have.

Im not saying that the local Members Councils are not a good place to donate, but for California specific issues the best place to donate is to the Calguns Foundation. 100% of donations go directly to legal efforts and education.
Calguns Foundation
And to get an idea of what they've done with the money they have received...
Calguns Foundation - What has CGF done for me lately?
Look at the very first case under "CGF Projects Underway".

+1 on the Calguns Foundation... they have done much more than what the NRA has done in fighting our cause and making meaningful progress here in CA, and is the reason why I setup an automatic payment to them each payday to help finance their efforts.

You are of course correct - I'm a Calguns Foundation contributor and I am a huge fan of what those guys are doing (and how they're doing it).
I was in a bit of a hurry when I posted and actually meant to point out that the NRA considers California important enough that they actually *have* Members' Councils.
But yes, Calguns Foundation is a fantastic lean organization staffed with the "smartest guys in the room".

it does offend me and I am looking into this and the guns foundation. the nra has made a believer of me after years of sitting on the sidelines. I joined this year finally. it's not that i was too cheap to join, it's just all I ever heard growing up was how extreme they were and I didn't understand how they worked so hard to fight anti-gun legislation. although i never owned handguns growing up we did have rifles and shotguns. so it's not like I came from an anti-freedom upbringing. I know the enemy now and they will stop at nothing. I don't mind sending in donations. thanks for the info, I had never heard of these before.

lagavulin62 -
I'm honored that you'd consider a donation to The Calguns Foundation. We're good at what we do, and we somehow manage to have a bunch of fun doing it. Please note, that though our focus is California, we still do work in other States.
The things that CGF and the California gun community have accomplished in California would have been unheard of a decade ago. We've been able to not only oppose bad legislation, we've been able to be proactive and attack it at it's roots. At the drop of a hat, we can mobilize volunteers armed with talking points, maps, graphs, and statistics to show up anywhere at any time.
It's donations that make it possible.
Finally, the best part of the donations are that they are tax deductable. The Calguns Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit educational organization. None of our Board Members take a salary. We all pay our own travel and expenses. So when you're making a donation, you're sticking it to "The Man" twice. First when you support the folks who are inexorably dissassembling statist gun control laws. Second when the same statists have to give you a break on your taxes for doing so.
Make no mistake, we are winning. And we'd be honored to receive your support.
Now - back to your regularly scheduled program... I'll let Bill Wiese know about the revo in the OP - he's got a thing for unfluted cylinders....

Man, I don't see how you guys in California put up with the gun control your state representatives impose on you. There is a joke calling California the "Granola State". Because what ain't Fruit is Nuts.

I cannot way for the roster to fall here in ca. I donate to the cgf and consider cgn my home site. When the roster falls the value of all my pre lock smiths will probably drop 10% on average but it will be worth it.

I don't need to live in California to realize it's gun laws are prohibitive. Maybe the joke was out of line. But I love owning pistols/AK's /AR's and other high capacity magazine firearms.

Very nice. Are those registered pre 200 ban?
The 2000 Assault Weapons ban in the state of California sparked a renewed interest in the AR-15 rifle. It is estimated that some 400,000 California Legal AR-15s are in existence in that state, with another 100,000 added each year.[21] There are three ways to get a legal AR-15 in California:
1.Registered Assault Weapon: If you owned the rifle before Jan 1, 2000 and registered it with the state, you have a Registered Assault Weapon (RAW) under CA law. No new registrations are permitted. RAW rifles can have combinations of features which are prohibited in unregistered rifles.
2.Fixed Magazine Rifle: This style of rifle is made by combining an AR-15 upper receiver with an AR-15 lower receiver which has not been specifically banned by name, and which has a fixed 10-round (maximum) magazine. In such a configuration, the rifleman could add otherwise prohibited features such as a telescoping stock and pistol grip. The magazine is not detachable, so to load the rifle the shooter must either "top load" or use a magazine lock. To top-load, the shooter pulls the rear takedown pin, hinges the upper receiver on the front pivot pin, and loads the now exposed magazine. Several devices are available on the market which replace the magazine release button with an inset pin that requires the use of a special tool to activate the magazine release.
3.Featureless Rifle: If a rifle has none of the prohibited features (pistol grip, telescoping or folding stock, flash hider, grenade/flare launcher, forward pistol grip), the rifle may be used with legally-owned large capacity magazines. There are several products available on the market to configure featureless rifles. Special grips are available which prevent the thumb from going behind it as would be the case with a pistol grip configuration. They are therefore not a prohibited wrap-around style grip. Separate buffer tubes to contain the recoil spring and buffer assembly may also be used in conjunction with special stocks without prohibited grips or stock adapters which attach to the pistol grip mount.
Most AR-15 manufacturers now make lower receivers which qualify as "Off-List" Lowers (OLL) in the state of CA. It is illegal to to offer for manufacture, sale, give or lend (although it is legal to possess) any detachable box magazine with a capacity exceeding 10 cartridges.

They are not pre 2000. They are both off list. The top is a jp-15 with a fixed mag and the bottom is 22lr and exempt for the assault weapons ban.
