Default Favorite P&R N-frame?

Just purchased a new digital SLR (Pentax K-5) with all the bells and whistles, so I've been wringing it out today. I thought I'd take an S&W picture, and thought "Why not take a picture of my favorite classic P&R N-frame?"

Well, here's the result. It's a Model 27-2 with a 3.5" barrel, shipped in September, 1978. That makes it 32 years old, and it's still in really nice shape. They just don't make 'em like this any more!

I'm sure some of you have a favorite pinned and recessed classic N-frame - let's see 'em!

John

I'll second John on the 27-2 3.5", but in nickel:

Ignore the SMG.

Of course, it depends on the day of the week and if I had my coffee yet and....well, hard picking one, but today, here it is.

Oh man! That's like asking one to decide which is his favorite child. Can't really be done.

Just got a minor "grail gun" in the form of a Model 57 6-inch nickel but this Model 29-2 with 8 3/8-inch barrel and I have been the most miles together since it was first purchased brand new over 30 years ago. It's held up to silhouette competition, hunting, and lots of fun shooting with never a bobble. It is said that Model 29-2's along with earlier Model 29 revisions don't hold up to heavy use with heavy loads but this one has. I'm a very satisfied owner.

It's hard to choose they are all my favorites, but the 3.5's take the cake!

Please!!! Don't ask me to make that choice.... I hunt with the big bores. 41 Mag is my favorite caliber but I'd have to confess, my all time favorite is a Mod. 27-2 5inch.

Hi TDC;

Nice to see your line-up with the original stocks in all their different and variegated grain patterns. There's some choice lumber on the grip frames of Gunnut's N-Frame accumulation too. I love interesting wood.

I'm sorry but there's no such thing as a "favorite" P&R N-Frame. It's like the unsolvable math equation...it cannot be done.

I am like another poster here. It's whatever I wake up with a hanker for.

Some of you guys missed the "recessed" part of the OP. Non-magnums need not apply. (LOL)

My favorite has to be this one:

A 5", 1954 357 Magnum, with numbered Magna stocks. Not the best picture but I too am learning how to use a digital camera.

I like the P&R game too!

Here's a recent acquisition and my new favorite....
Pre Model 29 shipped June 1958.
Of the other "N" frames I have, this one just feels the best.

Craig....

I really like the looks of the model 27's with 3 1/2 & 4-inch barrels but don't care for the target triggers at all. Make mine a model 28 and I'll live with the finish. Those wide triggers don't work very well in double action for me.

This is one of my "shooters" but I'll let it represent my 3 Model 28's, I love .357's, I love N-frames, how much better does it get?

27's and RM's are masterpieces, the 28's are just workhorses.

Here's a P&R "N" not seen every day. It's a 629 no-dash with an 8 3/8" barrel. I guess the three barrel lengths in this model would be my favorite stainless "N" frames as I believe they were the only P&R large frames ever produced.

During the pre-Model number era 27s came standard with the narrow trigger. I don't think TH & TT became standard until sometime in the 1970s.

I'd have flunked that test of Smith & Wesson P&R trivia TDC, as I would have said that the 629 wasn't produced as a pinned and recessed revolver. Cool gun!

Thumbs up

John:

Congrats on the new camera. Great photo!

Here is one of my favorited P&R's - a 3.5" that is a bit older than yours...

Here is my 27-2 in the 3 1/2 barrel guise. For those who don't like target triggers, this one doesn't have one! Just the target hammer.

Nice photo and photoshop work with that new camera. Nice revolver too.

Here's my favorite . . . the light-skinned version of yours!
