Price check on a 28-2, 4 inch?
I saw a 28-2 with the 4 inch barrel for sale and would like an idea of how much these are selling for. No box, etc. Somewhat worn but locks up good. I am looking at it as a shooter. What should I offer?

Around here I'd start at $350 then go as high as $450-475 depending on the condition of the finish

In my area, you'd be lucky to get it for less than $500 these days.

Thanks for the replies. What are the differences between the 27 and the 28? From everything I've seen, the 27s are going for more than the 28s. Is this just popularity or features?

The 28 is merely the utilitarian version of the 27.
1. The 27 has a high polished blue finish, the 28 does not.
2. The 27 has a checkered top strap and rib, the 28 does not.
3. The 27 came in 3.5", 4", 5", 6", 8 3/8" barrel lengths, the 28 came in 4" and 6" only.
4. The 27 many times came with fancy presentation cases etc, the 28 came in blue box.
I think you get the idea.

Hehehehe!
In other words the 27 is the Cadillac, the 28 is the Chevy.

Sad to say, yes you are.
If you "like" the 28, you're gonna "love" the 27. Seed planted. hehe

You may or may not be OK, depending on your own preferences. I have two 27's and two 28's and I actually like the 28's better.
They are both great. If you can't decide, you can do what I did and get multiples of both.

In my un-scientific watching of 28's and 27s on online sites, I seem to see the average 27 price coming down and the average 28 going up.
Last year you could easily get 28's in the low $400s, but 27's were nearer $600. Lately, I've seen 28s go for $550 and 27s for $500?
I feel kind of lucky I just picked up a 28- for $400.
On another tack, Does anyone else feel this way?: The 27 is such a work of art that any small blemish seems to "disappoint" more than the same blemish on a 28.
The marred finish points on the sideplate of my shiny 27 irk me much more than holster wear on my 28 (of course it could be I paid more for the 27.)

Central Oregon
I bought a like-new 28-2 4" from my local gun dealer Danny this last year. No box or anything, absolutely looked unfired by recoil shield, etc. It cost $475. This is the ONLY 28 I've ever seen in a gunstore in the greater Central Oregon area.

I recently picked up a 28-2, 4". The seller was asking $450 . He told me it had not been modified. When we met FTF for the sale, it was quite apparent it had been reblued. The seller told me 'someone must have polished it'. The rear sight blade had been filed down. I turned over $380 USD to him and we parted company. I must say, it is a heck of a shooter.
