Default Smith 57 shooter

Well, I came back from the gunshop yesterday where I picked up the latest gun. I had been looking for a big bored revolver that I would not have to worry about finish wise. All the Model 29's I have either had or seen were too nice, the same with my 27-2. But this gun was right up my alley. It belonged to a former cop, and it has seen its time in a holster. The action however is like glass and the bore is mint, only a hint of flame cutting inside the top strap. It has recessed cylinders but not the pinned barrel and the serial number puts it at 1982 area so that is right on. I won't have any issues about carrying this in the woods.

Good going Dave! I bet it makes a great field gun. Ever think of hunting with one?

If I get lucky, I will have a shot at some pigs and coyotes here in a few weeks when I make it down to Medina/Uvalde county. I am thinking that 210 gr JSp is good medicine for those cretins.

Excellent purchase and welcome to the .41 mag club!. My all time favorite caliber. That 57 will do just about everything a .44 mag will do with the right bullet and load, with less recoil. I used one for last ditch bear protection loaded with hot 210 Ggr. hard cast LSWC's in Alaska and it is deadly on deer. I'd even shoot an elk with it at close range. They will shoot stem to stern on a buck with amazing results and hogs go down like they have been hit with a 30/30 with a 210 gr. Speer Gold Dot.

Load em with 8 grains of Unique over a SWC and its like shooting a .38 through a model 27.

Congrats and enjoy that baby!
