Arrow Convert DAO Model 64 to DA/SA

If I wanted to convert a bobbed hammer DAO Model 64 to DA/SA, all I need to do is change out the hammer. Right?

Where can I find a replacement hammer for one? Please don't say gunbroker. Brownell? Midway? S&W?

Any idea on the price?

S&W might sell you one direct. Brownells could probably order it. I would call both of them with gun in hand so you could give them the exact model number (-?) and serial number if they need it. I bought a 49 Bodyguard hammer from Brownells earlier this year for $39.

If you do replace the hammer, please let me know. I might could give you bobbed hammer a home.

Put a "Wanted to Buy" note on this forum. I have purchased several parts from other forum members with very good results.

Hope this helps.

I would decide just how much it's worth it.....if you have to buy one it will be at least $30 and then you have to hope you don't have fitting issues. I did the opposite, put a DAO hammer in a DA Model 10 and although it worked, the hammer didn't fit 100% "right" and the trigger pull got a little gritty, probably from rubbing on the sideplate and the firing pin hangs up a little on the bushing when I dry fire it.

The hammer should be stock, it's likely the SA notch was just ground off and the hammer despurred. This isn't an NY-1 64, is it? If so these are rapidly becoming collectibles.

Also, I bought a DAO Ruger GP100 and dropped in a standard hammer and the trigger pull went to ****, developed about 3 "hitches" in the DA pull....... once those parts break in to each other, it's not always good to drop a part that has broken in to another gun in there and hope for the best.......I ended up having to swap the DAO hammer back in anyway.

If it's a PD trade in you got on the cheap it may be better to keep it DAO and enjoy it for what it is, and look around for a DA/SA 64 later on, it will give you an excuse to buy another one

When I retired I bought my dept. issue M14 that had been converted to DOA by grinding off the the necesary step on the hammer. To restore it I first bought a replacement hammer from Numrich Gun Parts. It turned out to be a used hammer that would push off. I returned it and bought a new 1/2" target hammer from S&W. It worked as well as the original which was outstanding.

I got mine from Numrich and it dropped right in.

All that's usually done (NY-1 excepted) is to file off the step.
