S&W 1911 Pro Series 9MM
Every once in a while, my slide does'nt lock open on last round. Is this a problem that I should send back to the factory for repairs? Or can a local gunsmith correct it inexpensively and quicker than a trip to the factory?

Most likely weak ammo problem, if gun is cleaned and lubed properly. Don't forget to clean the magazines.
In my 9mm, I run an ISMI 12.5# recoil spring, which seems well matched to power factor 125, 124gr ammo.

Is it on all magazines or just one? If it is all mags send it to Smith, if just one check your mag springs.
Also, does it do this with factory ammo or reloads or both. Reloads "Could" be a little on the weak side and not driving the slide all of the way back so that the slidelock "Can" engage.
Just some thoughts......

Thanks I'll check my other magazine this week-end. All the ammo has been cheap FMJ, no re-loads.

Check your mags, mine locks back with all my mags - Wilson and Metalform - and all ammo - standard pressure, +P, and +P+

I've been seeing a lot of Winchester white box that just dribbles out of the gun, seems a little light on the charge.

If you're not getting a good 4-6' throw of your empty brass then most likely the gun is sprung to much for the load, or the load is to light for the gun. Either way you can get a hotter load or a lighter recoil spring if the load you're using works good otherwise. When the slide doesn't get enough energy to fully retract it then the follower doesn't get to lift the slide stop.

There have been several complaints on other boards of WWB 9mm being very weak lately. I think the last complaint I read was with an HK USP 9.
All of the Winchester FMJ I've been using lately has been Ranger branded NATO ammo. No problems there.
This past year, I believe the final count was 30,000 rounds of Winchester ammo at work. No problems there. But that's all 9mm and 5.56, all NATO marked.
