Default WOW !!!! That's all I can say :)

So I finally bought the m&p 15-22 yesterday and took it to the range...

The first 200 rounds was frustrating , about 15 combination of FTF and FTE... the range was closing at 10pm, so about 9:45pm, I tried to to do a rapid fire of 4 clips of 25 rnds without a problem... and WOW

that's all I can say... I might go back today again and try 300 more rounds....

btw, I'm using the federal 550 from walmart..

First off congrats on geting a GREAT lil' plinker! Welcome aboard! That being said im not one of those "EHH he said clip" kinda guys. As I know its a very common and overly used mistake, and it doesnt personally bother "me". Other people.. well thats a different subject.. lol. So forgive me if I am coming across as rude or "worse". And yes a clip and a magazine are two totally different things. For future reference call it a magazine, as other forums you may be a member of may not have as nice of members as we do on this one. And people tend to be a bit obsessive over this particular subject. Again sorry if I am seeming rude, its not my intentions.

Here is a few pics to show the differences. The pictures themselves are things I happened to find on the net and are of the "smart@....." nature. but they will still serve the purpose to show the differences. Please forgive me as its not my intention to be a smart.... as these pictures are. Im just trying to help. Please do let us know how your next range session goes for you, and be SURE to check out the picture thread, as there IS PLENTY of rifles in there to get ideas on what to do to yours. Again, welcome aboard and happy shooting.

You might just need to do the "bend your extractor in" trick. This utube vid shows you how to do it...YouTube - Smith & Wesson M&P 15-22 Ejector (Extractor) Fix

although it may be technically wrong, in many areas and with many people the magazine is referred to as a clip. The term clip became popular with many of the soldiers in WWII and when they came back to the US they perpetuated it's use so that many people have grown up hearing magazines called "clips"

it is really just semantics and is not a major faux pas.

it is just the old Potato-Potaato argument but it really is not as big a deal as some would like to make it out to be.

here is a direct example right out of the book "With the Old Breed" at Peleliu and Okinawa by E.B. Sledge a marine in the famous 1st Marine division
he states......
"Attached to my web belt, I carried a pouch containing a combat dressing, two canteens, a pouch with two fifteen-round carbine magazines or clips as we called them. On the stock of my carbine I fastened an ammo pouch with two extra clips.

I personally used to shoot with my uncle (a vietnam vet) and he always called them Clips as well and growing up around the shooting ranges that I went to they were commonly called clips by all the older guys

They do not call them clips in the military anymore but that is where the term originated and it has been carried on to the younger generations ever since.

whether you choose to call them magazines or clips it really is not a big deal at all and as you can see by the above example by a marine from the famous 1st division they were called clips by the marines during WWII. I have also heard them called clips in many of the books that I have read by soldiers in the European theater during WWII as well.

I know the gun is new and all, but you might want to try other ammo. CCI Blazer is a step up from the Federal stuff. I've found the Federal stuff to work "most" of the time in my 15-22, and also have found that even when it does work, it is inconsistent. Sometimes the round is quiet, making me stop and verify that everything cycled and the barrel is clear. Other times there is 'extra loud noise' after a shot. The CCI has always been a much more consistent performer for me, and at least half the cost of the minimags.

I tried this part way through my first range visit and things improved a bunch. I was shooting the Federal 550 from WalMart. I went from a FTE every other round or so to 1 in 75 rounds. Next time I go back I will see how it does and possibly tweak a bit more. I may shoot some CCI and see how it goes.

The comments in that video make me sad haha. 15-22 "junk"? Although I probably would have said the same thing in 2009 before Smith fixed it

Yesterday I got to shoot a 15-22 from a guy i met on the internet.

All i can say, WOW I WANT ONE!!!!

I also got to shoot an oberlands AR-15 with .22lr boltkit, loved it too, but it's more then twice the price of the 15-22. It has some advantages as a large caliber rifle, but will i need it in the future (this is for me something to think about)

But again, WOW what a gun.
(the optics where amazing too, Aimpoint red dot and a Aimpoint 4x magn.)
