War story here too good not to tell. Dad bought one of the first of that design new, I forget what year. He babied that car. I was home visiting him and we got in the largest hail storm I ever seen! It looked like somone walked around the car with a tap hammer in each hand. The insurance company paid off dad on the car but he didnt fix it. Finaly dad lost his license due to alzheimers. About the same time he was at some friends house and asked where the rest room was. They pointed down the hall, he went through the wrong door and took a bad fall down the celler steps and got banged up bad! The people begged him to sue them but he wouldnt.
I had to go home and live with him untill I could talk him into a convalencent home. Finaly we had a auction for the home place, car and everything he owned. Dad still wanted big money for the car and was stubborn. Dads brother said well, why dont we wait for a good snow storm and try to sell it!
Anyway at the auction the bid got to $2,000s. Dad bellered at the auctioneer he had to have $4,500s, or he wouldnt sell it! Of course at that point I think it may have been even illegal to take it off the auction, and everyone shutt up, kind of in shock!
Dads friends wife, the woman whos house he fell down the stairs in, yelled out, $4,500s! The auctioneer just looked at me and rolled his eyes in disbelief! They were good people!

I used to service a fleet of those sucker's. Overall I was impressed with the Crown Vic, I initially did not think much of the engine with it's aluminum heads and such but with a few exceptions they held up rather well. Common problems are the Idle air control motor, if it wont idle but will run with a touch of throttle, replace the IAC, it's easy and cheap. Transmissions went out like clockwork at around 60,000 miles (at least with police use). If you suffer a ignition miss it's almost always the coil over the spark plug, once again a cheap and easy fix. Keep an eye out for coolant leaks around the thermostat area, if it has the all plastic intake manifold and at the right rear corner of the intake, the newer ones have a metal insert for the thermostat and are trouble free. If you do your own service, change fuel filters at 1/2 the stated mileage (important if you want your pistons in one piece) and blow out the spark plug wells with compressed air before removeing the spark plug's, even a small piece of grit will cause the plug to come loose and blow out takeing the threads with it! Ford has a tool set for an insert repair. Other than that it's a fine car, almost bought one myself last year but the wife dont like a rear wheel driver in the snow.

Police Package Crown Vics are still running down here, just don't get rear ended. Some very bad endings to that story from what I heard.

Bazillion hours driving them, a million bazillion cups of coffee drank in them, ate more breakfast, lunch and dinner in them, spilled breakfast, lunch and dinner in them, slept in them, drove while sleeping in them, been shot at in them, had people born and die in them, been stuck in the snow and had them overheat, drove under a low hanging power line and tore the light bar off one of them, had cinderblocks thrown through the windows while driving them, drove one with four flat tires. I could go on and on....

That's what I was hoping you would say about the motor.
Nice ride. Did it come with the cage in the back seat?

Nice ride! Your engine is the same (mostly) as in my Mustang. Very reliable, easy to service if needed. As VulcanBob said, there are some common issues but not everybody has them. Don't do any wide-open-throttle 3-4 shifts because the overdrive band will not last if abused. You can check out "CrownVic.net" if you want to see what others are doing to improve the breed. Welcome to the Ford family.

Odd. Most of those that I see have a gold stripe down the side and say 'STATE TROOPER' in a few places.
Nice ride!
