Default Grip Modification?

I just picked up this 6904 and i was looking at some of the picture threads on here and saw some pics of guys pistols that look like they re-contoured them and took the checkering out to form a smooth looking grip. What grit sandpaper are they using to get this look, is their a thread talking about this? I really would like to slim the grip up and make it a smoother grip.

--Also is it possible to do a Devel/ASP style window grip with a double stack magizine? would this cause feed problems? Has it been done before?
