Default New barrel for Model 15?

I have a S&W Model 15 serial number K 97187. A friend tells me he thinks the gun was made in 1950 or somewhere around that date. I think it has a bulged barrel. On the outside of the barrel you have to use a micrometer to find the bulge and even with a micrometer it is difficult to detect. However it is visible when you look at the inside of the barrel with a bore scope. Is this guns value because of its age enough that I shouldn't change the original barrel? The revolver is in excellent condition except for the barrel problem. If the value is not an issue will a barrel for a S&W Model 15-5 fit a S&W Model 15? Any information will be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forum! I cannot advise you about the barrel swap, but will advise you to shoot it and see how it does. A lot of bulged barrel's will shoot well. I have a 8 3/8th inch model 14 with a bulged barrel that shoots rather well. Was going to cut the barrel to five inches but the dang bulge was not in the right place. Just fer grin's I stay away from a hollow base wad cutter with any bulged barrel in the off chance that the skirt might seperate.
