Default Did I get a Lew Horton?

I got a model 624 no dash,3'',RB,Combat grips in a 1 piece S&W box.The SN is ALB34XX,Product Code 103580.In the back section of SCSW,3rd edition it lists Lew Horton guns and says it should be a -2 but in the 624 section it lists Lew Horton as a 624 with different SN prefixes than mine.Did the Lew Horton guns come in different boxes to show that it was special? Is this a Lew Horton or just a 3'' model 624? Thanks for any help, Ken

Ken - you do know that L.H. is just a distributor and many of the guns they sold are the same as other distributor's guns , don't you?

I thought LH guns were special runs made by S&W since there is a special section in the SCSW on them. So,I guess it will take a letter from Roy to see if it was shipped to LH.Are they worth any more being from LH? Thanks

I would not consider them any more valuable. LH spec'd the 3" N frame barrels which first came on the 24-3's and then other models but once S&W discovered the demand they started releasing the same guns to others.

The 24-3 three inch blued LH guns were limited to 5000 units. I bought one in 1984 and still have it. The run was so popular that the 624 3" came out to meet the demand for the 3" .44 special because the 24-3 run was limited to 5000 units and they sold out quickly.

What I don't remember is whether the 624 3" were distributed solely by LH or not and if the model was limited to a certain amount.

Email 'em & find out for sure.

I emailed Lew Horton and had my 624ND 3" confirmed by them. May not make any more valuable but, makes it a bit more "special".

Good luck,

Bruce

Dear Bruce,
The gun you are inquiring about is indeed a Lew Horton's Special. It was made for us by Smith & Wesson in July of 1985.

Good morning,
I purchased a 3" Smith & Wesson Model 624 no dash, ser # ALV097X.
I understand Lew Horton Distributing requested this variation built to your specification, though few others were distributed else where.

May I ask if this particular .44 Special was distributed by your Company?

Thank you very much in advance,

Bruce Vining
