Default Model 14-2 Questions

Model 14-2 ser# 4845** What year?

The box does not have a label. Did it at one time?

It was sold as ANIB but I think it has been shot just a few times. I didn't care because I will shoot it. With these grips it will not fit in the box.

Does that mean the grips are not original? No numbers on the inside of the grips. Or is it the wrong box?

Thanks

If the SN has a K in front, it is a 1962 shipped gun.

I think boxes of this era had the label but someone else here knows for certain. If the top mentions Bangor Punta it is a later box.

The Target stocks of this era were not numbered to the gun, even if original. Yours are from a later time, no earlier than 1968, since from the photo there is no diamond-shaped uncheckered wood around the stock screw (I think).

Sorry I did leave the "K" off of the serial #.

1962?

The grips do have what I have seen called the football cutout on the left side. I have seen some earlier target grips that are a lot like them but don't have the football.

The paper work/parts list has a date of 1967 on it. (I think)

So it must all be put together from different guns?

According to the standard S & W reference, yup, 1962.

The football or extractor cutout on the left panel started in the early 1950s and went into the early 1980s. Until 1967 a small uncheckered diamond went around the stock screw, so yours appear to be from after then.

No need to fret over the mismatched stuff, you have a nice gun. Enjoy!
