Any one have a recipie to duplicate this. It shoots "lights out" out of my M&P compact. I have bullseye and unique but am open to other powders as well. Any good 185 or 200 gr LSWC for my 4". I'm kinda new to reloading but do have a 2-3000 under my belt. Thanks for any info.

Go here and see what the load you are duplicating specifications are, Hornady Manufacturing Company :: Ammunition :: Handgun :: Choose by Caliber :: 45 Auto :: 45 ACP 200 gr XTP® , then go to a loading manual and see what is close to giving that kind of performance.

I looked them up. 900fps from the muzzle. That should be easy to get with a 200gr bullet. For sure Bullseye will get you there.

From an article in Handloader, February of this year, there is a load with Bullseye and the 200gr XTP. It has a starting load of 5.0gr and a maximum load of 6.0gr with an OAL of 1.230". The maximum is supposed to deliver near 1000fps, well over what you want.

Start low and work up, make sure you don't have a shorter OAL than I listed or all bets are off!

If you have any doubt, call Alliant and talk to one of their technicians. Tell them what you want and they will give you a starting point.

I used WW231 and a 200 gr Rainier slug. Cant remember right offhand how much...but it chrono'd at 1050...and felt GOOD in a Kimber 5"

Please state your data source. The Hodgdon site lists W231 and a 200gr Jacketed bullet with a maximum charge that only develops 906fps!

Responsible reloaders quote their source. I looked in all of my manuals and there are no loads for this weight of bullet traveling that fast.

A) I stated I didnt remember the charge weight and wasnt about to ( at that time) to go to the basement and dig thru the cobwebs to get my old manuals out and look it up. I didnt suggest the gentleman even try that load....I just stated a FACT
B) Rainier slugs arent JACKETED...they are plated lead bullets.

With the two powders you mentioned, I think 7.0g of Unique will work well for you and get you around the factory velocity.

IIRC, with the 'old' Unique, 7.1 to 7.5 w/ the 200 Speer 'Ashtray' worked exceptionally well from both my steel Commander and 1911 A1. At 7.1 the bullet most often expanded to maximum and split to the intact base. Beyond 7.2 closing of HP and frangibility could be a factor.

To me, Unique is to the .45 what 2400 is to the .357

Guys, thanks for the replys. I'm hoping Santa brings me a chrono so I can really start checking this out. For now I have been shooting off bags at 25yds using different powder weights. The M&P with 200 lswc will hold about 4" groups w/ 4.0 B'eye. I cant find a decent B'eye 200 gr Lswc load for the 4506. I had a handfull of 230 gr LRN that grouped about 2.5-3" with 5.0 Unique from the '06. The Hornady custom 200 JHP/XTP from both run right at 2".

Well, I hope you get a chronograph too! It is the only tool normal handloaders/reloaders have to check their loads. It isn't a tool to test for pressure, BUT, if I'm getting a gazillion feet per second from a 2gr load, I can pretty much figure out something isn't right! It will at least make me double and triple check my loading process.
