Less than $300 sounds like a just right deal with the box, papers, and extra goodies.
Looks like a 1977 gun.
A Model 10 Heavy Barrel is always appropriate.

Definitely a good buy with the box and contents. I recently paid $250 for a 10-6 without box or goodies. It was a Michigan State Police gun, so it has significant wear to the bluing, but it is a very good shooter and extremely accurate.

These are great revolvers and you got an excellent price. I paid $250 for my nickel M10-6 HB but that was years ago.
It was 98 or 99% when I got it, but it has been shot a lot since then. I have to take some new pictures since it now has the original magnas back on, with a T-Grip instead of the footballs it sports here:

I too have picked up a 10-6 recently. I paid a lot more than $250, but this one is kinda special.
It's a ~1964 (C700xxx) with the original box, some tools, and the wrapping paper. It appears to be unfired. It has the old rich blue without marks.
I just did not want to leave it at the flea market.
I like it but I would rather have a M66-1 4" in VERY good shooter grade.

$290 is a fair price for a 10-6 with the extra goodies. They are great shooting guns, every serious S&W enthusiast should have one...

Here ya go bulletproof-791:

Per the records clerk who registered it for me, it was originally registered to the Mi. State Police in 1969, which matches up with the serial number. It's had a few owners since then and I had to replace a non-factory mainspring to get it working reliably, but it's definitely a keeper.
