Default K-22 gunshop rescue

Hi all, earlier in the the month I called one of my pushers and asked, any thing new? Well he said I do have a used 17-2 in good mechanical condition with a lot of holster wear and the asking price was $350.00, I asked him to hold it for me until the end of the month and he agreed. Stopped by two day's ago and had a look at it. It was in good working order, lot's of timeing left and a good lock up with a set of rather nice post 1968 large football target grips, no other issues, this gun was used and shot a lot. However he wasent kidding about holster wear! There was little blueing left on the sides of the barrel all high spots worn and the bottom side of the trigger gaurd was devoid of blueing, no rust or pitting other than a few freckels here and there. The kicker with the finish was that the last owner spay painted the barrel with gloss black paint! The paint was worn through to the bare metal, the holster used must have been really something. Then I noticed that it was drilled and tapped for a scope mount, at least they were under the rear sight and not noticeable until you looked under the top strap.

Well with all this price was haggeled down to a point I felt that it was worth the effort. Got it home, checked the serial number of K4841xx and it appears to bhave been made in 1962, popped the side plate for a good cleaning, the side plate screws were a bit buggered and more than likely had a new hand installed as the timeing was so good for such a well used gun. Gave it a good cleaning and moved on to the finish, I stripped all the paint from the barrel worked it over with steel wool and used cold blue on the barrel and trigger gaurd, heated it up first with a hair dryer first and this seemed to help. Put on a set of mid fiftys diamond center grips and took a few pic's, I really should have took a few before pic's! This was purchased for use as a field gun and hope it shoot's well! Thanks for looking!

Nice job! Amazing what a little elbow grease and cold blue can do...

Nice catch for under 350. Should shoot well and you won't have to worry abt hurting the finish. Good woods gun also, have fun. Larry

Well the temperature hit 40 degree's so off to the range I went to shoot the new K-22 and a brand new Ruger Vaquero in 44 special. That old abused K-22 shot real well with the one and only brand of ammo I took, and I am happy with it. Oh, the Ruger shot well too.

Now that's a gun a feller can enjoy and his grand kids will probably do the same.
