Photos of RM for Sprefix
With apologies to everyone else who has already seen enough. He asked to see the gun.
I don't know why some folks were having trouble viewing the photos but I relinked them to try to fix the problem.

G44- The avatar is a drawing from my art school days. I call it "Blue Man" and it's a sketch of a figure sitting on a box. I wanted something colorful and distinctive that would jump out at me as I scrolled down through the posts.
Sometimes I use my oil painting of Albert Einstein as forum avatars.

Thanks......
Again, Wow.......That is a beauty. I'm not a guy for safe queens (no offense, I just gotta shoot 'em), and that is a masterpiece for the hand. Thanks for the history of your RM. I had no idea and I am a guy for the background information. Maybe this year will be good to me and I can acquire one. I asked around last year, but stuff came up. I think the condition of yours is "perfect for me". Maybe I'll even get lucky and find somethin' in the $1500.00 range. I'm kind of a miser these days with our current...ahhem..."leadership". Shoot straight...........Sprefix

R M's are Tops
I first hesitated to respond but your RM is a beautiful example of the early craftsmanship which emerged from the S&W Factory. The "Hammer" seems unique and since I have only reached the novice rank, if that, I am asking why it is so different from those of the more recent manufacture? The early revolvers sure are works of art! Nice Photos also!

There is a basic difference in appearance between pre-war and post-war hammers. The pre-war's spur curves along the top of the hammer while the latter ones emerge from near the middle of the hammer. This gun has a "humpback" hammer which was available on pre-war guns and is sometimes seen on the RMs. This is not original to this gun and is damaged with the tip broken off. I got it with an incorrect hammer and swapped this on while I look for a totally correct one.

Great looking RM!
Just wondering what the barrel length was on that one? It looks about 4 1/2"
Cheers

It is 4" in length. They were cut from 6" in the late 1940s and early 1950s.
