Okay, so I ended up with two Enfields. One looks to be your basic No 4 Mk 1. It lacks a rear sight and the front part of the handguard. It's also taken apart into pieces. This gun sat under a pile of junk, forgotten, in someone's garage for two years. I cleaned some of the rust off, and poked a plug of grease out of the barrel. There is a rear sight, but it isn't the complete rear sight. It's just the "ring" unit without the adjusty unit. This was held on with a bread tie and is no seperate. Rear piece of wood has been repaired and is lighter than front piece of wood. Also missing the safety and the protectors for the front sight posts. But... I'm pretty sure it'll shoot, it's just ugly and needs some elbow grease.
The second is a 1947 Jungle Carbine, neglected, but less so. Still needs a good cleaning. Apparently this one was being used, but has a bent barrel. Yes, the barrel is visibly bent. Taken apart, looks like it is all there. I guess you could use the safety and maybe the sights on the first rifle. Or try to straighten that barrel. Receiver is solid and correct type for a Jungle Carbine with the cut outs, and the bolt has the hollow knob. Wood is dark but I think it is all there.
So anyway, I've used a whole can of Breakfree and given the parts a partial scrub. You'll probably want some steel wool and maybe a can of oven or BBQ paint (basically what the Brits used during the war, google it) and you can probably assemble one working Enfield out of the two of there. I don't really have the time to mess with it.
I'm on Parris Island (yeah, I know, I need to change my location). $225 gets you BOTH of these fine (?) guns FTF in the Beaufort Area.
Will trade for most anything. Some GI Joes, toy soldiers, a different gun, I don't know. Something else that strikes my fancy, try me.
My wife doesn't like the stink of the cleaning chemicals and the mess, so I can't complete the project of getting one or two Franken guns out of these, maybe you can...
