Some of Smith Crazy's Cast Boolits, 240 gr.
Skip was kind enough to send me some of his hand crafted 240 gr Cast Boolits, for my 45 Colt M 25 which I have not even been able to pick up yet. It's in pawn shop jail for a few more days. I did order and receive my dies but the Starline brass was out of stock. Skip also sent me some brass so I could at least shoot the gun and not just drool over it.
I just set up the dies and here is the first "dummy" round and few boolits on a piece of rough sawn walnut (old rifle stock) that I am going to eventually make some 1911 grips out of.
I have Winchester Auto Comp in my powder hopper so I think I will just load a few with that to start. Maybe I should be more authentic and use some Trail Boss? What do ya think?
Thanks again Skip, really appreciate it!!

Yup,
nice gesture, and good lookin' bullets. That's some good lookin' lube too. I have some bullets that have the same lube or at least one identical looking (since I know Skip makes some of his own lube), and they never leave any leading. Look like they have hog written all over them to me.
9 grains of Unique under those dudes will set you free, or 12.5 grains of HS-6 (about an extra 50-75 fps over the Unique load at same pressure), or...................................

THOSE LOOK BETTER THAN WHEN I LOAD THEM! (They must like you better! )
Glad to help a reloading brother out. What is a new gun without ammo? Not much! This way, you are ahead of the game! (And I helped!)
Since this is new to you, start your own tradition. Use what you want and have fun doing it!
Blessings!

If you are going traditional, I think Unique would be more the powder to use. I don't load the .45 Colt but have seen lots of published loads using Unique.

I have not tried AutoComp in the .45 Colt but I have tried W231/HP-38, AA#5, HS-6, Trail Boss and I have Universal but haven't loaded with it yet. all the powders I listed did very well in the .45 Colt but I like W231 best followed by HS-6 and AA#5 in that order. The Trail Boss rounds are very soft shooting and I like the added smoke but those loads are only good for plinking IMO.

Yes Unique seeks to be the powder of choice. I will try that next. I did load up a few with Win Auto Comp as I was to lazy to dump it out and poor in HP 38 (which I use a lot of) or the Unique. I have 8lbs of the Win Auto Comp so I have been trying it on everything. Without hard data, I think it is pretty much HP38 in a little finer size and you use more of it..
It meters great.

Boolits
Just an unimportant comment. I find the word "Boolits" to be insulting, aggravating, unpleasant, ridiculous and you can add to the list as you will. It simply pisses me off no end.

Then you probably won't like the Castboolits site very much.
Shame really, they're a good bunch and have custom mould group buys, etc.

I second Snapping Twig's comment. Although it does seem ridiculous to me that one might ignore such a wealth of information simply because the website in question chooses to use the term cast "boolits". Come down to earth, take a deep breath, explore the site and learn something.

Well, we agree on something then "J", an unimportant comment!
Listen, get over it. It isn't a reflection on you at all. It is "tongue in cheek" humor. No one is trying to change Websters nor throw a twist of ignorance into bullet (some like boolit) casting.
The intent is not to make you made but now that we know it does, ........................................................
Take a chill, bro.

But you didn't say why? Some pretty strong verbiage for just a silly word. Tell us how you really feel.

I hang out at the CastBoolits forum and learn a lot. I could care less how they spell, it's casting knowledge I'm after. There is a wealth of it on that site.
