What's Your Current Favorite Food To Eat Out?
Up the hill from me in Auburn, Ca. in the gold country is a micro brewery called the Auburn Alehouse. It's in the same building John travolta hung out in in "Phenomenon". His Garage was built out front.
I go there and have their "pastrami cured salmon Rueben sandwhich" and a couple IPA beers. This sandwhich with about almost an inch of transparently thin sliced cured salmon with sourkraut and horseradish on rye bread is so good I can't stand it. With each bite I experience the texture of the bread and soukraut, then the soft, succelent cured salmon. I take a bite and just sit back on my barstool and look at it piled there on my plate, my tastebuds begging for more. I found recipes for pastrami cured salmon and will try to reproduce it. What's your favorite thing to eat when you go out? For me a distant second is Veal Oscar at a different place.

Free.
Whenever someone else is buying, I'm not argumentative or finicky.
I learned a long time ago, it's best to only eat out only when someone else pays for it.
(Or when the wife wants to...)

What is PU 240? BTW, folks. This place has a a great informal atmosphere. My wife and I aren't the white tablecloth types and this brewery with giant beer vats overlooking the room is perfect. It used to be The Shanghai Chinese Restaurant connected with the fantastic old Shangai Bar, may it rest in peace.

We live on venison for red meat and love it to death....however when we go out to eat it's always seafood...don't care for beef.

It has to be fried seafood, because eventhough not particularly difficult to do at home, it is pretty messy with too much clean up time and lingering aroma afterwards.
Now if I'm steaming oysters, making deviled crabs or jambalaya or something, no prob. But to get a bunch of different varieties, get them all prepped and cooked within a reasonable timeframe of each other is just too big of a deal!

Right now I am on a fried shrimp po' boy kick. Dressed with mayo, ketchup and tabasco sauce and a side of steak fries. If I'm really hungry I have a cup of Crawfish bisque for my "salad".
Prior to that it was fried softshell crabs.

Don't have a chance to dine out much, but if I did I think I would be heading for Indian restaurants these days. I go through phases, and I'm in a kind of eat-stuff-that-makes-your-eyes-bulge-and-your-scalp-sweat mood, so a good chicken vindaloo would be just the ticket.
I'm making do with the frozen chicken tikka masala entrees from Trader Joe's, but that's a pale imitation.

Wednesday's at the Beau Rivage Casino for the afternoon buffet. All you can eat for $13.00 for the wife and I including desert. They will have a big roast beef, baked turkey and baked ham. All kinds of potatoes baked, mashed and sweet with marshmallows, lots of hot vegetables. Huge salad bar with lots of fresh fruit. Always some baked Salmon. Fresh shrimp all you can eat with cocktail sauce. Deserts are just to many to mention but I am partial to pecan pie and banana foster. Cookies and ice cream lots of coffee and the waitress just keeps filling your soft drink glass.
Just remembered all of the bread and hot rolls and cornbread, pizza baked in a stone oven heated with a wood fire.
The plates are as big as a serving platter with nice big cushion backed chairs to enjoy your meal. Nice silverware and two forks and lots of napkins
Hell, Take a look for yourself. The food line goes even further around to the left.

triple baconator meal
3 meat patties, 3 slices of cheese, and 9 slices of bacon goodness.
1,360 calories, 40 grams of saturated fat - and that's just the sandwich!
The new sea salt fries make it that much better

Food
Current favorite would be Eggplant Parmesan, accompanied by angel hair pasta garnished with nice marinara, with crisp salad. Local purveyor is Olive Garden, believe it or not, in Sarasota, which has superb cooks and ditto service.
Call me Surprised, but Happy!

Bar-b-que this time of year as it had been too cold to cook any myself. I really like seafood and always enjoy going near the ocean so that I can get fresh.

My current favorite food when going out? Whatever my wife wants. Usually that will be Zaxby's chicken or roastbeef at Quizno's. However, if it's up to me, I really like good pork Bar-B-Que. If we're going somewhere "nice," it'll be steak or seafood.

A local seafood house, "The Shrimp Basket", has all you can eat fried popcorn shrimp on Sundays for $9.99, along with a terrific potatoe salad with new potatoes and sour cream with a side of their shrimp cole slaw and hushpuppies. After the 3rd plate full you have to take a deep breath before you dive again. I love the gulf coast.

I'm not too particular, but enjoy most ethnic foods, especially Chinese and Italian. My favorite Chinese dish would be curried chicken and vegetables. The Italians make some pretty good sauces, which is the most important part.
I ate at a Palestinian-owned and operated restaurant in Milwaukee one time; I had no idea what I was eating, but it was outstanding. Nothing like that around here, though.

We can make most any meal better at home than we can find at out... with one exception... Chinese. Can't cook good Chinese food at home... just can't.

If we go out to lunch its BBQ unless we're by the beach, then it's usually a fish sandwich preferably fried for reasons already stated by VAdoublrgunner.
Dinner would usually be seafood or steak.

My wife is disabled (can't stand for very long) so I do most of the cooking. When I don't feel like cooking, or for something I don't cook well, we eat out or get takeout....usually Chinese or Mexican, or BBQ. My wife's favorite is pot roast from Cracker Barrel. When we go to eat there, I always get breakfast foods...I don't know why, but I love to eat breakfast foods late in the day, at a restaurant.

- Chiam's in Chicago's Chinatown. Amazing egg foo yung, and I HATE eggs. I first ate there when my parents and I went to see "Ben Hur" in the '60s.
- Cortez, formerly in Blue Island, IL. Burritos the size of a 16" powder bag. GREAT Mexican food, although I'm told they've moved.
- Mountaintop Chinese Restaurant in Seoul. Sea cucumber. I don't remember the name, but it's the BEST Chinese food I've EVER had, ANYWHERE. They're on top of a mountain, as though somebody replaced a firebase with a restaurant. If I were going back to Seoul, I would make SURE I found out if they were still there.

Outback Steakhouse, where I get either Alice Springs chicken or the Victoria's 8 oz. filet (beef). Add mixed vegetables and rice or baked potato.
The Prop. took pity on me and bought me a bottle of Lea & Perrins sauce after I complained that they were bringing it in dishes. The corporate policy is to pour from big bottles in the kitchen.Cheaper for them, I guess.
The Prop. is not only cute; she's friendly and really seems to care about customers. And my favorite waitresses there are a cut above the norm these days. (One has a degree in Psychology; another just finished her AA in Nutrition.)

There's a couple of Greek restaurants we like to hit in San Antonio.
We live on red meat and seafood at the house, but my all-time favorite place to go is the original Cooper's Bar-B-Q in Llano, Texas. it is the only place I ever gone and torn the rear-end out of a $20 bill for lunch and not regretted it! Meat, beans, and a jalapeno or two.
Remember-vegetables are what food eats.

Wet burrito al pastor, no lettuce. That's my Sunday after church usual. I don't even really have to order it any more, they just bring it to me. If it's any time other than Sunday at 11:00 am, I like a Dos Equos Amber with that.
We just got a new mercado up the street that has the obligatory taqueria inside. Their tamales are pretty good, so I just might be going there some, too.

My wife thinks I'm crazy, but--Waffle House cheese and onion omelet plate with bacon and a dark waffle on the side.
I notice she always eats her share even if she grinches.
I love omelets and have eaten them at a lot of high dollar place. None come even close to WH.

We love eating the seasoned and grilled chicken at any El Pollo Loco location. This fast food chain started in California and is slowly spreading eastward. Delightful roasted chicken Mexican style. Prices are very reasonable. Quality is top-notch. I just wish they served draft beer! .... Big Cholla

I ain't picky - none of the items mentioned so far would be crossed off my list.
But if push came to shove it would be shell fish, shrimp, oysters (half shell, fried, baked), scallops, etc, etc, etc.

I'd be standin' in THAT line, provided there's gravy on the fries. However, since I'm in the midst of a gout flare-up, the mere thought cause my left big toe to occupy its own angry, flaming zip code.
Mind if I live vicariously through you guys for a while?

Abuelo's Mexican restaurant. Thursday-Sunday has a Prime Rib like no other I have ever had. they are a chain Mexican restaurant across the Mid-West and every trip to Tulsa it is my 1st meal when I get there, you can google them and see if they are located in your state.
If you ever get a chance go!!! and their Salsa and chips could be a meal all by themselves.

La Nopalera at Oakleaf in Jacksonville, Fl is the best Mexican food I have had in the US. It actually makes me think back to visiting Mexico when I was in the Navy. You know you are about to get good Mexican food when you aren’t really sure if they just understood half of what you said.
