Default Smith First issue 1891 date of manu.

I just aquired a Smith first issue model of 91 22 caliber 10" barrel with mismatched numbers on hinge and frame, althouigh both nickle. Could someone tell me when it was made..serial is 15633 on frame and 126814 on hinge..Could this have left the factory like this? I know LITTLE about these pieces. thanks in advance. mm8nambu

I would say that # 15633 was made around 1896 or so, as to # 126814, I have no idea as to where that number comes from, as far as I know there's no Single Shots in that serial number range, so the latch may be from some other gun ?. I doubt very much that it was shipped from the factory like that.

Welcome to the forum mm8nambu.
I agree with H.M.Pope on his answer. I would like for you to list your frame number under the thread named "List your mis-matched SS" etc..
You can never tell when someone may come up with the barrel and or latch for your 15633 frame.

Terry

How about # 16814 on the hinge..Little to happy with the keys... Barrel does not have any number..It looks "original". (all parts.) thanks for the welcome guys and for the info.

Take a good look with a magnifying glass between the "ears" of the barrel, behind the latch. That's where the barrel number is and they are very small numbers, hard to see, if the barrel is numbered. Ed.
