4516 VS 4053
I just purchased a nice 4516-1 LNIB I have not had a chance to try it out yet maybe tomorow. Anyway, my question is I have my eye on a 4053 and from what I hear they are the same size as a 4516 (same frame) is this true? I really want a fairly compact 40 but not too small. I like single stack steel guns and prefer DAO but not a must. I have considered a older model single stack 4013 but damn hard to find.

Never owned a 4053 so can't help you there.
Don't forget Kahr. They make some very nice weapons, very nice.

The 4053 and the 4516 are about the same size, but the 4053 has a slightly longer barrel. I haven't owned a 4053 but I have shot one and like it a lot. The 4053 has an alloy frame and will be 8 ounces lighter than the 4516. Because the 4053 is built on the .45 frame I have a preference for the 457 about the same size but with the lower pressure .45 round. These are all great guns so buying them all is not a bad idea.

The 4053 uses a double stack 9 round mag and alloy frame so the grip area will be a little wider.

The original version of the 4053 has an alloy frame with an eight round single stack magazine. The 4053 from the PC has an alloy frame with a double stack magazine.

The 4053 and the 4013 have about the same frame but the slide on the 4053 is longer to conceal the half cocked hammer of the DAO model. The 4053 doesn't have the decock levers so it can be considered a little slimmer in that regard.
The weight of the two guns should be pretty similar. You can figure that the double action pull on the 4053 should be around 10 pounds give or take a little. The double action on the 4013 will be a little more but the single action will be in the 5 pound range. I have a DAO 4046 and the trigger is very smooth, allowing for good work out to 25 yards. Generally speaking revolver shooters tend to like the DAO trigger on the Smith autos.

The original 4013/4053 use the same frame as your 4516, except that they are aluminum instead of stainless. The .40's have 3.5" barrels, vs. the 3.75" barrel on the 4516. They all use the same grips and holsters.
Later TSW series 4013/4053 models use the double stack frame of the 6906.

Yes, good and important clarification.

I have an early 4053, single stack grip frame. It has 3.5" bbl and no safety/decocker, so it packs nicely. Excellent firearm for what it is intended.
