Pistol and Rifle Ammo ? Ammunition With Attitude

Saw the banners, decided to try it. Ordered 1,000 rounds of 9mm for myself & one of my shooting buddies, 300 45 ACP for him. Shot some off this weekend thru my Sigma & M&P, his XDM 9 & Kimber 45.

Not a problem in any of the pistols. I couldn't feel any difference in recoil vs the 9mm Rem UMC, Blazer & WWB I was shooting too. Not any dirtier that I could see either. Accuracy was fine, same with the 45 ammo. He let me launch a few thru his Kimber and I managed to keep a full mag on a 3" Post-it at 15 yards resting my elbows on a table.

They say they use only once fired indoor range brass, I believe it. Brass looked good, couldn't see any flaws on any of the rounds I handled. Here is a pic comparing it to UMC on the left (1.110" OAL avg of 5 rounds), USA middle (1.135"), WWB right (1.157"):

Only thing that goobers the deal a bit for me: sales tax. The ammo shipped from Oregon, but seems they are in Houston too? Maybe admin is here, production is there?

Tax takes the cost per round over what I can get on special, like the recent $80 shipped after rebate for 500 9mm from Gander. So I'll jump on any special I find, USA will be backup source if I start to run low between deals. But for anyone that doesn't take the tax hit, good buy.

edit: changed title, added link to clear up confusion.

I don't believe Win USA is loaded with once fired brass.

I always thought Winchester USA and Winchester White Box ammo was the same ammo just called by a different name.

I have never heard of Winchester using once fired brass in any of their ammo. I would check that source again.

Let me wade in to stop some confusion--

The OP is speaking of USA AMMO brand ammo sold via the web, not Winchester white box USA ammo(which is the box showing behind the rounds he pictured-adding to the confusion!). USA Ammo is loaded in either new (more $$) or once fired indoor range recovered brass. They sell .380 ACP, 9MM, 40 S&W, .38 Special and .45 ACP plus .223 Rem and I believe .308 Win.

I purchased 1000 rounds of 158 grain FMJ .38 special and have fired 100 so far. Not bad ammo for the price. A little dirty- think Unique powder dirty- but reliable. Packaged in full color 50 round (loose pack) boxes. Also shot some of their 115 grain FMJ 9MM with no issues.

Got quick service when I ordered too.

Google USA Ammo.com and you should hit the correct place.

Looks like they use a plated bullet. I dunno, if you are comfortable using factory reloaded ammo go for it. But if the price is more than you can get factory new for, I'm not sure I really see the point.

Yeah, the Winchester box in the background of the picture threw me off... Thanks for the clarification.

In my humble opinion, anyone buying ammunition 1000 rounds at a time is the perfect candidate for becoming a hand loader.

Come to the dark side - we will tout the savings and enable you right into the poor house!

Yeah, but 9mm? How much would one have to reload to make it worth it? I could see it with some other calibers, but then I really don't know, I need some more education.

You won't save a ton reloading 9mm, but over time it will still more than pay for itself. 45 ACP though, you will definitely save. And on most rifle and large handgun calibers the savings are pretty substantial.

A few years ago when you could find 9mm ammo for $6/50 it would have taken a long while to recoup the equipment costs. Now days 9mm ammo will cost you over $12/50 and .38 Special ammo will run you $18/50. Who would have thought it just 2 years ago? Considering I can still reload 50 rounds of .38 Special for just a hair over $4 the savings is considerable.

9mm 115 GR Federal is $10.47 50 ct at Walmart. Best price I've seen.

Best I've seen at Walmart is Winchester White Box for $22.95/100. I haven't seen any of that Federal ammo around here. Local gun shop has that same ammo for $2 more.

I am very grateful I no longer have to buy ammo.

I've seen the Winchester 100 ct box at Walmart. Good price. I'm paying about 2 bucks less for Federal. (2 Box Federal 50 Ct)

Wal-Mart keeps the prices very consistent on the budget ammo, even across brands. A couple months back I calculated price per round on a few different 22lr bulk boxes, Fed Win and Rem, and the price per round was the exact same. For 9mm your best bet is the Federal for 10.47, or the Remington 250 box if they have it. I think the price per round on the 250 box now works out to about the same as the Fed, but it used to be a little lower before they raised prices (again).

Hmm, where is a good place to figure out what I need, and check prices? Because between my three 9mm guns, the wife's .38 special......

Just go over to the reloading section ask what you need to get started and you will quickly have a dozen posts, all of them telling you something different. I would highly suggest a Lee Classic 4 Hole Turret Press. For about $200 you can get started and for $300 you can get most of what you will need. Add components and load away. If you shoot as much as I do you will break even in about 3 months. (or less if you shoot even more than I do)

I don't want to hijack this thread so if you want more information PM me or just start a thread in Reloading.

Angel71rs,

Thanks for starting this post, I have been looking at this ammo for a week and had decided to pull the trigger and buy 500 rounds of 9mm,45 & .380 today until I read your post. I didn't realize they were based out ot Texas either, after paying the taxes it's not that great of a deal.

A local farm supply store had Blazer 9mm for $8.99 this week. I love to reload, but for that price, I will buy Blazers and not worry about reloading the cases.
