Got mine last summer and pretty much have a pistol of some sort on me all the time.
If you play smart you'll never need it on humans,I actually got mine because I like to live in the country and make most use of a gun on animals, now I can walk anywhere in the boonies and not have to worry about it

Belleville, just outside Parkersburg and right on top of the Ohio river (it's a bit less then a mile from me)
Actually made the news when I moved in in Sep,the tornado was literally over the hill from me.
Originally came from CA and lived over in Ritchie county for almost twenty years.

You have to carefully watch those reciprocity agreements, some only apply if you are resident in Florida.

Your only about 2 hours from me. I know what you mean about the critters in the boonies. Though I dont think anything I will carry could stop the black bears.

South Carolina does not recognize WV CHL or Non-Resident CCW permits from any state, so they don't get any of my fuel/lodging/food $$$ when I drive to Florida.

Yeah hopefully I get it sooner. The lady at the sheriffs office said 2-3 weeks. I plan on carrying anytime I leave the house.

One thing I've learned of bears:the old,big ones are not the problem, the young stupid ones are what can try to chew on you! (how you think the old ones got big?-avoiding people! ) now most bears around here that are young get about,oh,170-200lbs? I'd think most any 40 cal and up pistol can tear them apart,or a good .357 mag
Frankly never had a problem with the fuzzy-wuzzies though, the worst I've had to deal with are wild dogs, dang things have come and made faces at me twice in the woods, didn't help them I had a .45 with me
