I think I was robbed
Went to a small local gunshow today. Walked by one vender and thought I head my name called. Looked down and there was this nice looking nickle 4" 581 laying there (BTW, nickle doesn't turn me on). I examined it real close and the finish looked at least 98 %, action was tight and smooth and it was in time. Turned out it was a 581 no dash, no M. The guy wanted $400 for it, and all I had was $350 cash. We finally settled on the $350 OTD. No box- no papers. I figgured it could keep my blue 4" 581, no dash, no M company. I got it home. Took it apart and under the Hogue grips, I found an area smaller than a pin head where the nickle has breaking down. Did I get robbed.
Same gunshow, traded a moderately shot Glock 22 with box and papers, even up for a like new S&W 4006, w/3mags. The guy I traded with, after the trade, told me he got the best of the deal because the Glock was plastic and the only plastic on the 4006 was the grips. Go figure, he was probably no more than 30 years old. I didn't get robbed on this trade.

I'd be very happy to find any good condition no-dash S&W's around here for $350! I think people are starting to realize they really can get more out of 'em

581 for 350? Sure, that's a deal I would have taken.....and the Glock 22 for a 4006? Heck I would have had a hard time not laughing at the guy....maybe he'll wise up before the next show

You did better at your gun show today then I did at mine. You got two good deals, and I came home empty handed.

I may have to start buying Glocks if I can get that kind of a trade deal. Any gun that ugly has gotta be cheap so having one as trading stock for a decent 3rd Gen S&W sounds like a reason to actually get one. I sure don't want one to shoot.

F/U. I got the 581 all cleaned up and lightly oiled. Put an extra set of Arrends combat grips on it, replaced the rebound spring with a 15#. Once I scrubbed everything down, it looks little fired. It is nickle from the factory, which is a plus. Very smooth action. Now my blued 581 won't be lonesome.
The 4006 after field stripping looks little used. The previous owner, was of the younger generation, and apparently thought that proper pistols should be made out of plastic. Anything else wasn't modern. Besides you see more Glocks in the movies and news than you do 3d gen Smiths. It was hard not to laugh at him.

Were you wearing a mask when you did these trades?
Seriously though good job of trading on two nice pistols.

$350 for any S&W revolver is a pretty good deal! I recently looked at a very poor conditon police turn- in 681 or $399. It was at a LGS and there was no going down on the price, absolutely $399-tax. The reasoning was they had sold worse condition S&W revolvers before for as much or more money!

you bought a nickel finish S&W 357 magnum for $350 and you think you got the short end of the deal? You can stop worrying. Next we will probably hear that the first three characters in the serial number on your new model 581 are all the same
"A".
enjoy that shooter.
