Default Just sent this email to smith & wesson

Hi, I have recently purchased a 15-22. I also joined the smith and wesson fourm. I also have a M&P9mm and plan to buy a M&P40 and a AR15 in a 308 round. my question is this. on the fourm their are a lot of people that would like to install, or have installed a performance center barrel on our 15-22 's Is it possiable to send my riffel to you guys and have a performance barrel installed? Also , how much will it be to do this??

I also need to send my hand gun in to have a performance sear installed and trigger job done. I need a price on that please and a price on the same for my M&P15-22.

So performance barrel on my M&P 15-22 and triger job.
Triger job on my M&P full size 9mm

Thank you,

Lets see if we get some detail on this..

What are the improvements in the performance center barrel? All I see is fluting. My limited knowledge of the subject says that fluting reduces weight and dissipates heat better. Is that really a great improvement over the moe in a 22?

Besides the fluting and an extra couple of inches (18 vs. 16) its also match chambered.
That means its tighter and has less freebore in it for better accuracy.
The down side of a match chamber is that CCI Stingers should never be used in it.
Stingers are slightly longer and because of that they are forced into the rifling when chambered and can raise the pressures to unacceptable or even dangerous levels.

Can't you buy the barrel from S&W and do it yourself? Not sure of the 15-22 arangement for the barrel attachment. Or can't you just buy the barrel and have a local gunsmith do it for you?

Got to be cheaper then having S&W do it, then the shipping costs and waiting time back and forth.

It'll be interesting to see how much they want to put a new barrel on. I know that when I sent mine back when it was having problems, I asked them to thread the barrel while they had it. They sent me a confirmation of service letter that said they would thread and install a flash hider for $164!I decided against them doing it.

They're currently not selling the barrel, so I think he's trying to see if they'll modify his gun instead of selling parts.

Besides, shipping a long gun via USPS is fairly inexpensive, and depending on the price S&W quotes it could be a fair bit cheaper than taking it to a local gunsmith who almost certainly doesn't have the correct barrel nut wrench to work on the 15-22.

How could they modify his gun to match without selling him a new barrel? the PC version has an 18" barrel. It would probably be cheaper to buy a PC version and sell the 15-22 he has now.

I wrote to S&W about threading my barrel and installing a flash hider or changing barrel's to the already threaded barrel..

Their reply was that they are not doing any gunsmithing with the 15-22's all they are doing is building new rifles.

Maybe their reply to you will be different, but I have a feeling it wont be.

hhmmm.. that's sad if they wont work on their guns. Would this be the only gun they make that they wont work on? My barrel has a flash supressor installed. guess i have a newer model riffel. Maybe they have not been making them long enough to do performance stuff to them. I know they wanted like 125 for a trigger job on my M&P 9mm. That was new sear, springs, and work. + shipping... I would assum if we give it enough time someone will step up and start making things like barrels, and much more. LOL I am still waiting for a 100 round drum mag for it to.. )))
